Hey guys, I'm budgeting for 3 people. Me a cute little asian girl, my boyfriend 6'1 red head American-Canadian and hi little bro 6'3 (yeah not that little). Heh I'm having a blast planning for food too heh.
I looked at walmart and found bottles of water in 24 packs for good price. In your opinion how many cases should i get? And how many gallons should i get for general use like cooking and dump on yourself showers?
2 cases for each person? making 48 bottles of water? or more? I bought myself a 2 liter camelback to share between me and my boyfriend and I know his bro has one prob holding a little less one too. Should we buy more gallons then bottles?

i think you should take as much water as you have room to comfortably carry. you will likely want to freeze a lot of it first and use it as ice for your cooler. you also can fill milk cartons and freeze those - you can use that water for splashing and save the bottles for drinking. the milk cartons will stay frozen a long time in a good cooler - longer if you cover the cooler with a quilt.

From what I have been hearing on here it is always bring twice the amount of water that you think will be enough. TN heat sucks hardcore here because of the humidity. If you are use to the humidity than you can do with what you are initially thinking of getting, but if people are not use to that kind of heat by all means pack more than you need.

It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."

Walmart or Sam's Club have the best prices on water that I can find. I think last year we took 3 cases of water and 1 case of gatorade for 5 people and it wasn't enough. So I would think 2 cases per person would work. If you are going to use a camelbak, I would buy the gallon jugs also.
As for food, take some snack items and maybe some fruit (we got the little mini cans of mixed fruit), but I would advise to buy your food on Shakedown - sooo many great cheap options.

I know the water bottles won't burst in the freezer but, i've heard some people say that the milk jugs don't hold up that well. I don't know. I've never tried. It's worth a shot.
I can get a 24 pack for $3.50, which is like .145/bottle. since its such a good deal, and i love water, i'll prolly pack at least 10 cases, and actually take about half of them into tent only with me to start. i figure i'll give it away or sell it if i don't drink it all.

I think I'm going to buy a jug or two tonight and put it in the freezer to see if the plastic holds up. If not my boyfriend is not going to like me messing up his freezer ha! But like who cares. I'm the one doing all the planning and prep work.
I usually take about 1 gallon per person per day. I take gallon jugs and only 1 case of liter bottles. The liter bottles are easy to carry and I refill them as needed while I'm in Centeroo (the well water doesn't bother me.) I freeze all my water before i come and use what fits in the cooler. Rarely does a jug leak, though it can happen.
I also never shower with drinking water (except an occasional pour over the head to cool off. ) I wash at the troughs. The gallon jugs also work to haul water back to camp if you run out or do shower at camp.
Just be sure an recycle all that plastic in the recycle bags you're given.
i brought 2 cases of 24 liter bottles of poland spring that i got from wal-mart. i ended up bringing back half a case with me, and i think i actually shared/gave out most of the second case. i've learned that for me personally, i do best when i split the beverages i bring and do half water and half flavored-beverages(gatorade, vitamin water, etc).
i have no idea how much water your group will consume, but its definitely better to have extra than to not have enough.
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!

2 cases/person might be overkill..........if you can fit it go ahead, btu trust me you're gonna have less space than you think,. def bring a ton of water, as much as you can. but if you can't fit 2/person don't fret it too much

Don't fill the water all the way to the top of your jugs before freezing. H2O expands when it freezes so leave a little room in your jugs. Otherwise, the plastic could split and the jugs will leak as the H2O melts.
One case of 24 bottles per person is 6 bottles per day......I think to little. Unless you have some other drink with that like vitamin water or Gatorade.
If you get 5 cases that will be 10 bottles a day per person...That sounds right... Along with Gatorade and maybe some soda..
i read an article in the local paper about how freezing plastic releases cancer causing agets into the water
As does heating plastic.
That said, these days, you're hard pressed to find things that DON'T cause cancer. Plus, in many cases, the stuff you'll be doing while you're drinking your chemical water at Bonnaroo are probably much worse for your physical being.
Ahh, you kids have obviously never had well water. Bunch of wusses. As for me, I took 3 cases of 20 oz bottles, and it was all gone by Friday. I never felt like I didn't have water though, we would just go fill ours up at the wash stations. The water really isn't that bad!

^*shrugs* Call me a woosh. I've drunken well water before yeah dont like it. And if I have the money and room I'll prefer bottled water. After considering the room I have to pack for three people I'll at least buy 2 case per person and stock up on the gallon jugs and wedge them underneath the SUV's seats. And freeze a bunch of jugs into ice for the cooler.
Anyone rec Dry Ice method? I heard it turns the food into a funky carbonated taste. I'm only going to have inthere food wise is delimeat and hotdogs. Mostly want the ice for drinks to cool off.

I froze 16 bottles of water last year and threw in 3 softball sized dry ice chunks topped off with another case and some mango nectar. Everything stayed cold and the frozen bottles were still pretty solid by Saturday night, and i refilled with more water that got cold pretty quickly. As for funky-carbo-taste, i used a seperate cooler for food so im not sure.

I have to recommend POWERade Option drinks. I have tried the Black Cherry flavor and love it. It's a low calorie (10) sports drink with only 2g of sugar. I know some people might want another sports drink that has a ton of sugar in it, but if you're like me and shouldn't have that much sugar, then this is a great alternative! It has electrolytes and b-vitamins as well!
I've never tried the regular POWERade, though.
I also read on these boards somewhere that taking a salt pill in the morning would help to retain water. That might help some of you...if you don't have high blood pressure, that is.
Save your 2-liter soda bottles and fill those up at home for splashing on yourself and refilling water bottles. Then you don't have to worry about the well water, you can have the water you are used to. I took about 10 last year and had to pour some out on Sunday.

I have found that if you buy the gallon water jugs at walmart or somethign and freeze them about half will leak when they start to thaw out because of a split or something somewhere. this is mainly because they generally use thinner jugs for the gallon water deals. I have used gallon milk jugs also and none of them split because the plastic is thicker. either way works, but we stuck a gallon water jug in a backpack last year and ended up pretty wet. so just drink a bunch of milk and use those instead if you can. dont forget to rinse the hell out of the milk jugs tho.
