i dunno if this belongs here but, is it better to buy a plane ticket directly from an airline, or a site like expedia or travelocity? price is the same, but if there's an advantage one way or the other, I WANT IT!
THANK YOU! (sorry mods, if you have to move this! )
If you know exactly the flight that you want, there's no real difference. If you want to browse options then use Expedia, Travelocity or Orbitz.
The only difference I can think of is that some airlines give bonus miles to those booking direct on their site - I book direct with NWA.com and get another 500 miles each time when ever I can. Makes no difference unless you'r a frequent flier and miles are important to you.
I've had good luck with www.bookingbuddy.com - it lets you enter your info, then links it to pretty much all the other travel sites like expedia, orbitz, hotwire, etc. If you find a great fare, you can always go to the airlines own web page to see it it's any cheaper.
Good luck, I just got raped for my airfare (waited one day too many)
... But who cares, 'cause now I get to go to BONNAROO!!!
I like kayak.com for a search site, but I'd check out the "internet deals" portion of the pricing at southwest.com, theyre def. not refundable but if you live near a southwest serviced city you are golden
Most of the time you get billed an additional $5, through travel sites, I always get cheaper through the actual air site. I do however locate the cheaper fare through a travel site the go to the air site.

hope this doesnt double post, got some sort of error last time ... anyway, i go to like cheaptickets.com or one of those places ... i then write down the flights and the prices ... then i go to the airline sites themselves .... if for some reason you miss your flight, or something like that, your ticket is good for a year in most cases .... if you buy from an internet site, you are usually just out of luck ... i have missed more then one flight in the years i have travelled .. so its really good to do both ... actually as long as it isnt a list minute kind of site, i find the airlines can even be cheaper .... cr****

Buy it from the airline... if you have issues with your travel they take care of it. I had a lady at the airport desk in texas tell me one time that they couldn't do anything for me as far as rebooking because I had bought through one of the internet sites. Since then, I find the cheap fare through those sites and buy it from the airline itself...

this is exactly what i was going to recommend. i usually search orbitz and the airline. if there is a significant difference in price i go with the cheaper one. but if the prices are the same or only like 5, 10 bucks difference.. i go with the direct airline site.
that way if you have to cancel your ticket, or change it, or anything.. you can. (without travel ins) you dont have that luxury on orbitz.

Outside of the other advantages mentioned on buying your ticket through the airline (easier to deal with if something comes up, can use it later if needed), I've noticed that you get to sit way farther up on the seats if you book directly through the airline. I used to used travelocity, and I would always end up in the back of the plane no matter so early I booked. Recently, when booking through the actual airline I get to stick in rows 17 and lower. While it won't subsitute a great deal on travelocity or the like, if there even in price you may get to exit the plane earlier. Which after sitting on a plane for a couple of hours can really make a difference . . .
If you are flying into Nashville, that is a Southwest city, try www.southwest.com. My friend got one from Baltimore for 64 dollars.
The only thing to be careful of with southwest is that they are not a member of the "one world alliance" or whatever, where if your flight gets cancelled you can make them buy you a ticket for the next flight on a different carrier. Southwest will make you sit and wait for the next available Southwest flight.

^If you are flying from a southwest city to another southwest city this isn't usually a problem, I had TONS of flights to choose from with BWI to nash
usually (99% of the time) its not, but its nice sometimes to know that you've got the "buy me a ticket on another carrier" trump card, that way should your flight to roo be that 1%. Its as much risk reward as anything else I guess.
