With all the questions about BFE and when to arrive, I thought a poll of people who ended up in BFE and when they arrived might give us a statistical (though unscientific) indication of when NOT to arrive.
PLEASE only add to poll if you WERE IN BFE. BFE will be defined as a 30 minute or more walk to Centeroo (Do not include Day Parking)
(Since I've never been in BFE I can't add to poll.)
seems like if you're in an rv, you're pretty much ok to arrive at anytime. they had a good parking spot, although they seem to fill it from the futherest spot and continue closer to centeroo.
I arrived around 6am on thursday and ended up in one of the furthermost squares off of woodland ave. it looks close on the map, but it's not. I kicked myself in the ass for not dumping our stuff off in tent only as we drove by.
This year I plan on getting in to VIP before noon on thursday. If I can park closer to the trees, the better.
We treat mishaps like sinking ships and I know that I don't want to be out to drift Well I can see it in your eyes like I taste your lips and They both tell me that we're better than this
We got into the farm last year at about 8:30. As we were heading to our spot we were pretty excited to see that they were filling in the camping spots directly behind tent only but then they split the line and sent us to BFE. We were in the very last group to be directed there. I ended up camping under the tree in Dr. No.

We came in as the sun was rising, which provided a lovely view of the main stage and the big green field...then we realized we were also being sent out there. We were in camp P ussy Galore by the woods. It wasn't that bad, and the shade was nice...really, you're going to have a good time wherever you are.

We arrived around 5pm on Thursday and ended up on the very outskirts of the top right corner of the map. It was a good 40-45 minute walk into Centeroo. Clean port-a-potties and pretty quiet at night but those were the only advantages........
Since fewer people arrive before 6am Thur (I'd guess < 20%) and about half the survey ended up in BFE, I'd say your odds are very good of getting BFE if you show then.
Since the vast majority show up Thur, it seems your odds decrease as the day passes.
I would think they fill BFE in lower right (off map) first, then the center areas, then BFE in upper right and last upper center. That would make sense as it would separate car traffic and foot traffic as much as possible. Of course I've been there by 8am almost every year and never got BFE so the crapshoot theory is always in effect.

Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!
^^ never but that seems like an incredible idea....
on a side note though.. in 05 i was camped pretty far out, by the edge of my camp against the ropes. I meet up with some other friends who had a much closer spot and space nearby that i could get my ride into... I spoke to one of the flag dudes and he said that if i could get out "more power to you bro...".
Rolled into the grounds around 11:00. We were in BBFE, Pod 11, and after we set up our camp cars upon cars rolled by getting closer spots and kickin' up the roo dust. I'd say that was around 1 or 2 in the afternoon. If we'd only known we would have just followed them. Some ppl did just that. Never set up, just waited for the traffic and eased on in to a closer spot.

I was in line for the gates at sunrise on Thursday last year. By the time we got through the checkpoints and into the campgrounds it was probably 9 am, we camped fifteen yards behind tent-only, it was absolutely perfect. I think that any time after about 7 or 8 am on Thursday is optimum.
Isn't this a rather biased poll? I mean, if most people arrive between 6AM-12PM on Thursday, then aren't more people going to be getting a BFE spot at that time?

I don't see how it could be a biased poll. People vote on what time they arrived and where they were parked.
It's been said that if you get there before they open at 7am then you WILL get a spot in BFE. After 7am, you're more likely to get a better spot. This poll was started so people could see if there was a pattern to getting the better spots.
I think this poll goes to show it's totally a crap shoot no matter when you arrive.
I agree with Jess. If at least 50% of people are arriving Thursday morning, and 25% of those people arriving in that time frame get BFE then a lot of people are going to say they got BFE, even though the other 75% got good spots. Also, there is some subjectivity as to what is close and what is BFE. I still say 6-12 on Thursday is the best time to arrive.

Get there too early, get BFE

so, if your planning on tent only, you can try to set up as close to centeroo as possible, correct? Does BFE only refer to car camping? I'm still slightly confuzzled by this
BFE is only about car camping. Tent Only is in an area right next to the stage entrances. Of course being in BFE means you have to carry your stuff a lot further to get it to Tent Only.
