Dry Ice is a good way to go. Don't worry about it. Just put it in the bottom of your cooler, then cover it with a piece of cardboard or something. It'll keep your stuff cold and you'll never come into contact with it. A combination of dry ice and frozen water bottles works VERY well!

Don't keep dry ice in a cooler in your tent. As it turns to gas(CO2) it will settle at the bottom of your tent and at the least give you a terrible headache.

They do sell ice at wal mart but its like crack by Saturday or so. Ran out and was waiting on a truck was the story. We had to hit like 3 gas stations before we found any. They have ice trucks that circle around roo you can buy from them if my memory serves me right. 5 bucks a bag I believe.

yea those trucks come around and sell ice which is a good thing since you cant just leave and drop into a store (like at wakarusa) ... cr****
^^ From what I've heard, don't plan on driving out of roo from car parking.. sometimes you get lucky and you can but for the most part you are packed in.
My friends say they have walked to Walmart in the past from the roo site and got a lift back, though

I'm with you about co2 not being good stuff to breathe in place of the 79% nitrogen 21% oxygen we usually breathe, but this is my question, aren't the bubbles in beer and coke CO2?
So would opening too much beer in your tent be bad?
Also, if your cooler with the dry ice has a good seal and you only open it once or twice a day to unload into a smaller cooler without dry ice, will there still be a potential danger of CO2 narcosis in your tent?
I actually geeked out and looked up the relative densities of CO2 gas to solid (yes I'm a Chem Engineer*GEEK*) and the ratio is about 1 to 1080 (1 with 80 zeroes after it).
The point is the solid will REALLY expand. More than a million cokes.

The small danger with dry ice (CO2) is that it displaces the oxygen and nitrogen in the air we breath. Breathing CO2 in a closed environment is the problem. Not drinking it. (That will only make you burp and fart.) What will happen to you if you do breath in insufficient air, i.e. not enough oxygen or nitrogen? You will pass out. If you are already passed out in your tent from overindulgence then that hightens the health risk you see?
Also it will chemically burn your skin if you handle it. Use a glove or towel or something.
Dry Ice is usually sold in thick open bags. They come in 2 inch slabs and average 8 inch square pieces. Sometimes you get a few smaller pieces in a bag. A bag weighs about a pound. I place two bags of dry ice on the bottom of my big cooler, cover with a towel or plastic and place regular ice/frozen drinks over it. Keeps everything colder longer.
if you put dry ice into a cooler along with regular ice cubes, can u still use those ice cubes in mixed drinks? Or will they make you sick or something?
