Don't get your hope up too much. Prices in Mid TN are about the same as shown on your chart. ($2.90 avg - 2.80 min.) And they will go higher as summer travel season gets here.
Isn't it funny how we have a lack of refining capacity in the US but the Oil companies have shut down 75% of their refineries since 1985. Lesson: Make less gas = Make more money!
Since we are all going to use so much gas coming and going from TN, it'd be nice if we could avoid the big 3, Exxon, Shell, & BP. Support the mom and pop stations if you can. Or Citgo, that's the Venezuelan state owned gas & oil company.
I don't want to get preachy but Exxon is evil and I hate the idea of my money supporting those goons, or the middle east oil barons.
Shopping at the stores is fine, that $$$ goes to the station owner.
Citgo is the way to go. Approx. 80% of the profit goes to rebuild the Venezuelan infrastructure incl/ schools and hospitals instead of corporate profits. That's why they nationalized the oil industry.
One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain. So hit me with music. Hit me with music, now, yeah. Hit me with music. Brutalize me with music.
Basically, top tier gas uses more emissions control additives than the cheaper brands. That means more environmentally friendly. They also include fuel detergents designed to keep your engine from getting gunked up as fast.
I only found out about this on a BMW motorcycle website. Because of the air-cooled design, most BMW bikes require premium fuel; the higher octane keeps the gas from pre-detonating (which leads to engine gunk) in hot weather. The additives in top tier gas are identical to the fuel injector cleaners you can buy off the shelf in an auto parts store.
If you're having engine problems, you might want to run a tank or two of Shell, followed with a bottle of this stuff called Seafoam. Works like a charm.
I love the idea of supporting the mom & pops, but it's not like they've got an oil rig in their backyard; the big corps are gettin' their cut one way or the other. And if you care about your ride getting you from A to B, sometimes you've got to go with the devil you know.
If you're really into helping the environment, learn how to ride a motorcycle; lower emissions, better MPG .

$3 in FL.....And already heard it may be $4 (?!?!?!?!?!?!?) at some point this Summer. Geeeez.
I really have kept my driving at a minimum the last few years, but of course it's at an all-time high the one Summer in my life I decide to drive cross-country. Ha.
And the thing troo said about them producing less and making more reminds me of a special I watched last night on PBS about ENRON. :/ Evil, evil greedy bastards.
I don't know if it's possible in your areas, but here, Costco sells their gas roughly $.10 - $.20 a gallon cheaper if you have a costco card. It's not much, but every little bit helps.
It was $2.90 when I gassed up last night. In a state where minimum wage is $5.25.
I drive an '05 Silverado Crew Cab - I filled up a few weeks ago, $68. At minimum wage, after taxes, I'd have to work just under 18 hours for a tank of gas. That's over 2.25 work days @ 8 hours a day.

I get my gas for free.
Hmm. How do you do this?
Gas is very expensive here in central NJ too. I remember buying my first ever tank of gas 5 years ago (you get your license at 17 in New Jersey) and it was like 15 bucks, now it's over double that. One thing, don't buy your gas from Exxon.
I remember back in the 60's (just barely, I was probably about 5) when there was no collusion and oil companies actually competed with each other. During a local "gas war", gas was $0.29 per gallon.
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
My husband thinks I am funny b/c I will tell him where the cheapest gas in town is....his way of thinking is that it is not saving $$ to drive out of your way to get gas..whatever, if I can save a couple bucks, I will go out of my way to do it...And he will stop wherever for gas. I would just about push my car to another gas station if I can avoid Exxon For most people though..what choice do we have....I need the gas to get to work.
