^Looks good to me, easy to set up and the fly sticks out way over the door.. always nice to open your tent door when its rainin and not get water inside. lots of dome tents the fly will only cover the airvents at the top and not give you cover if you open the door
For festival camping, Colman and similar brands all make good tents. This is not wilderness camping, so you don't have to spend 100.00 and up. The only thing to be concern with is how well the tent will keep out standing water. Those small lakes that form after a huge down pour. A good tarp under the tent can help with this. The only other big concern is wind. Most of these tents are rated for under 40 mph. The tents that have rain-flies that go almost all the way to the ground help against the wind and rain too. I'm hoping the weather will be great, but just in case, some things to consider.
Seam sealing is a good idea. The talk of waterproofing the rest of the tent with a spray is not. Seam sealing is all that is necessary. The tent panels are designed to breath and if you spray anything on the panels it will keep the tent from breathing. If you thought tents got hot before, wait until you get in one that has been sprayed from head to toe. The only other sealing that should be done is for older tents that need to reseal the floor but that doesn't apply to new tents.
I am going to feel realy dumb for asking this but in all my years of camping I have never had to worry with shade tents/canopies. Well I'm bringing them to roo but hese things use these guy lines which I have never had to use on my tents. I tried to work one this past weekend when I set this up in the yard. I could not figure out how to make the guy lines work. I tried looking for a diagram on line but couldn't find anything. I am sure it is something simple that I am missing. If you understand what I am asking and can provide some useful information it would be greatly appreciated.
Great! That looks a lot like what I did but the line tightener wouldn't hold it just kept sliding around on the rope. I will have to do it again to see if I was possibly using the wrong loop and not the loop closest to the knot. I thought I tried both but maybe I was just dizzy from the sun after setting up all my equipment.
Someone should buy it and set it up on shakedown, just to see who crawls in... or, make it the entrance to your tent. It could be fun while drunk or otherwise.
