What is the lighting like at night? Is there any ambient light thrown around from lamps/etc, that makes hanging out/seeing people/finding your campsite easier?
Just wondering because somebody mentioned a string of solar-powered lights in another thread, and I started poking around eBay, finding things like this:
I'm wondering if having something like those hanging from our shade canopy will make chilling at our site at night a little more... enlightened. Anyone have any experience/comments?
Personally I bring a headlamp for darker places, but don't forget that after dark folks eyes actually adjust to the lower light.. if you shine a light in their eyes they immediately go back to daytime mode. Don't walk into someones camp waving a flashlight around.
For our camp we usually use the 4d battery lamps, those work just fine.
oh, and a lot of those solar lights are glass.. watch out! if you break em thats quite a bit of glass sitting right in the center of your camp

I plan on using candles and glow bracelets for my camping at night. I don't want to bother my neighbors with lights if they are trying to sleep or sumthin'.
I've brought a lamp and a flashlight every year and have never used either that I can remember. It's very light in the main campsites (never been to BFE so can't speak for there.) I'll bring a flashlight again as it's useful inside the tent, truck, etc but I'd not spend a lot on lighting , unless you find something that looks cool and you want it for decoration. I may do this.
at night i have battery powered paper lanterns. the lighting is soft and just enough to see where i'm going around my tent. I usually hang one in side the sleeping section and one inside the screened portion of my tent. I picked up a pack of 5 at target a couple years ago. Good buy!
We treat mishaps like sinking ships and I know that I don't want to be out to drift Well I can see it in your eyes like I taste your lips and They both tell me that we're better than this
I say yes, bring light of some kind. It just makes life easier. IMO LED lights are the best options and there are plenty of different kinds at good prices on Ebay.

I have a headlamp with 2 white LEDs and 1 red one for protecting night vision. Works great when you're motorcycle craps out on the side of the road after sunset. Probably work just as well in a dank port-o-potty.
the only thing I bring light for is the porto's. They are DARK in there at night, try taking a piss when you can't see anything, it sucks. A flashlight on a string works well for this, just hang it around your neck, and there is enough light to see by.
As for the campsite, I never noticed really needing a lot of light. But, I spent almosst no time at camp last year.
BFE actually can get pretty dark. We were in Camp P ussy Galore back at the edge of the woods last year, and there were some points where it was seriously dark while we were stumbling back to our tents. Usually, though, your eyes adjust to the light difference. Out in the main campsite around Shakedown, you won't have to worry about light.

I'm using battery operated Japanese paper lanterns from Dollar Tree to hang around the EZup over the hammock. For the RV awning, I'm using a mixture of rope lights via generator of course.

We usually just rely on glow-sticks and candles for lighting.(PLEASE be careful with your candles!) We also bring a battery powered Coleman lantern for when we need extra light.

last year i got HUGEEEEE citronella candles at target - they lit us up pretty good - we also had a few tiki torches, also a flashlight or 2 is good to have if you have a lil walk to a porta potty

nice find, oat. They had those on these big poles over in the art of such-n-such, and I watched them for about an hour on sat. night last year... It was nuts!

It gives off a subtle ambient glow but, when combined with the inevitable glow-stick or candle, I think it will be a really nice touch. I'm going to have to change the batteries soon because i've been using it almost everynight in my apartment. It's a really nice effect. The transition between colors is almost unnoticable. I'm planning on using it for some of my post Roo "celebrations"!

I use a Coleman propane lantern that lights up my whole campsite. I also bring a couple flashlights, usually the main roads around the camp are lighted well, but the ones going throught the camp are dark and you want to see where your walking so you dont step in horseshit or glass. You should have no trouble finding your way back to camp.
