Ok, I didn't mean to be flippant, if you felt put-off by that. Hell, it'll take you a day or so to figure out where they gyro stand is.
Beanie Weenies are always a winner...
Also, hot dogs, since they're simple...you won't be wanting to bust out the grill for anything complicated...the heat makes you very, very lazy (dirty south, fool).
There is one secret that eludes many first-timers for a while...there is a stand on 3rd Avenue that sells $1 garlic grilled cheeses, and I have seen them save many an empty stomach (mine included). We already had a "food" thread on here, and it was decided for the most part that it's about the same price, and a lot easier, to just buy your food. Keep it in mind, but I had some neighbors that cooked up some nice peanuts last year.

burgers are easy but even faster were these Mountain House dehydrated meals. I got the teriyaki chicken. You just boil water, unzip pouches of dehydrated meals pour in water, zip bags back up for a couple minutes. fast as hell and not too bad either. Also if you are in BFE and dont want to go back to camp for meals, you can always throw some flavored instant rice or noodle packs in a Nalgene and add some water then throw it in your backpack. Probably not quite as tasty but I thought about doing it last year. Was too close to centeroo to mess with it tho. Also jerky is great to throw in the backpack as well as trail mix with wasabi beans if you can find it. MMMmmm
I haven't decided how much cooking I'll do at Roo. I bought a little camp stove, just in case. If I do cook, or at least heat water, I have a coffee press that goes in a Nalgene, a few Mountain House meals, and some ramen noodles--which I'd cook up with embellishments like dried chives and sesame oil.
People keep talking about bringing bread, but I'd think that baked goods (no pun intended, heh) would get moldy or stale pretty quickly in the humidity.
Some of my criteria: easy prep, not too messy, good at variable temperatures (since I'll be storing stuff in my cooler).
Other possible components: trail mixes and "hard" snacks (nuts, sesame sticks), oranges, celery sticks, grapes (if you freeze them, they're a great snack during the shows), spray cheese, salsa, Triscuits (they seem to keep better than a lot of crackers), Nutella, canned corn (I like it unheated!).
I love cheese, but I've never had luck with it in a festival/camping setting; it always gets oily and gross. And I'd worry about meat unless I knew I could keep it at a constant temperature.
For the most part, I figure if I want a real, hot meal, I'll be buying it at Centeroo--the better to not miss much of the action.
