^^^it does happen. People run out of gas, cars overheat, things break. Fill up on gas as close to Manchester as you can and make sure you fluids are topped off
Give your car a once over before you leave. Friends of mine were stuck with a $300 repair bill before they even got in line.
I've heard rumors of people running out of gas while waiting in line... don't know if there's any truth to them though. Either way, that would really suck.
In 2002, I reached the tail-end of the line with 1/3 tank of gas in my truck. 14 hours later, I was almost on fumes and wondering how we were going to get out come Sunday.
Every since then, we gas up in Murfreesboro off I24 before getting in line.
OK, I went to Coventry (Phish's last show) and we waited.. 35 hours.. from late Thursday night, until Saturday morning.. we were still on the highway, and they rumored to be 20 miles of cars on the highway backed up.. they came on the radio and said that if you were still on the highway, you weren't getting in, turn around, go home, they'll find a way to re-imburse us.. well, everyone started freaking out, girls crying, etc.. until everyone just started pulling over, and saying "F*** IT! We're WAlking!" so we did just that.. pulled over, packed up as much as we could in a huge dufflebag, and started walking.. it was about 12 miles to the venue.. we walked at least half of that, or more, drinking, partying with the thousands more who did the same, and got picked up by a local at some point( I was too wasted to remember exactly where.. I had so many beers in my duffle bag, the only logical choice was to drink them to lessen the weight..or so I thought). I passed out immediately after setting up the tent from exhaustion, but I had the time of my life and will never forget the RAVE on the highway Thursday night, drinking all day on the highway Friday, and the joy of finally getting there, and not letting someone (even if it was Mike Gordon) tell us we couldnt' do something.. it was beautiful! So anything will be better than that!
We had 3 cars. Last car was a 16 and 15 year old. No cell phone. Just a 2 way radio of 2-3miles. They went towards memphis when we headed to manchester. (not paying attention) So we get off at the wendys really close to bonnaroo entrance. Sat there for about 30+ minutes. Next thing we know we hear them on the walkie. Flagged em down and waited about 5 mins in the line to bonnaroo. It was amazing. We really thought we had lost these guys, and they had a fwe peoples tickets and stuff that were in my car. Close call, but ended up being a great roo.
You can just hop off the close closed exits saying your getting gas and come back down right back into line waaay ahead of everyone. Thats what we did
Last year we waited maybe 30 minutes. We came from atlanta on 24 at about 4:00 PM, but were helped out by a downed powerline. It stopped traffic completely for about 20 minutes (more than likely causing a huge backup). Luckily, this was only 1/4 mile in front of us. Once it was cleared, we had nothing but wide open road all the way to Manchester!
last year we got in the line off I-24 at around like 12 or 1pm on thursday. the whole process to get our wristbands and get in took probably an 1hr - 1hr 15min tops, and we ended up somewhere around camp darth vader.
came in from 24, down bushy branch last year on thursday between 4:00 and 4:30. no line at all. we had a quick search, but we were pretty far away.
however, i think i am the only person in the world who loves to camp far away. it's quiet, peaceful, and nobody treks all the way out there to steal your stuff. plus, we had trees lining the camping area. i find the long walk invigorating, and you get to see so much on the way to centeroo that you'd otherwise miss if you were to camp closer.
You have one the best perspectives! Thanks, now I dont feel like worring about being in BFE, I can enjoy the walk... Karma to you
As my Inebriated buddy walks out of the Porto, he yells out, "Dude...I love this place...bonnaroo thinks about everything...they even put beer holders next to the toilet!"
Had to break it to him that that was the urnal. Good times good times!

in '05 we had zero wait. we just rolled right up to the gate, quick search, and bam right into BFE. BFE was kind of nice with the tree lines and excessive space though.
