For everyone's safety and comfort, Greyhound asks that customers please follow certain restrictions while on board. Federal law does not permit smoking on Greyhound buses. We have a zero tolerance for alcohol, drugs, weapons and unruly behavior.
Does this mean just no drinking on the bus... or does it also mean that there is no alcohol allowed in your luggage?
I know, I'm underage anyway, so I guess what I really need to know is if they go through your luggage at the station, like at the airport?

I used Greyhound fairly recently and had no issues. I didn't have any alcohol or other such substances but I just tagged my bag and threw it under the bus. It was an in-state ride, though, if that matters.
edit: Also, to me it seems that they just don't want you drinking on the bus, but it could never hurt to give em a call and clarify.
I agree. It sounds like they are talking about actively consuming the alcohol on the bus. I don't see why they would have a problem with you having alcohol in your luggage. As for their security, I haven't been on greyhound in a dozen years, which was a different world then so I don't know what to tell you about their screening. I can tell you that the stations can range from grandesque airport style depots' to Lilly's corner convenience store. On the smaller stops there is no one working for greyhound there. The bus driver loads your luggage and takes your ticket. So i don't know how security can be too tight.

Last year the guy next to me got thrown off for having an open container. Just put it in a safe place in your luggage below. They went through all the stuff I brought on. Especially just to be safe if your underage
It seems I have had a completely different situation. Last year I rode the greyhound down and had about no secuity dident open bags or any kind of search.
Keep in mind - at most of the Greyhound stations in bigger cities - they may not search your bags but more then likely will have a dog there at some point. At least that is how they do it here in Jackson - but then again - we are a "gateway" between Texas/Arisona and the East Coast

well, i got on the bus in memphis
they looked in my backpack, not in my luggage, now that i'm thinking about it again
i was also pretty sedated for the 10 hour drive, might have had something to do wiht it, and my 3 hippied out friends dropping me off smelling like smoke
just be careful, and don't bring anything that will get you put in jail
