did most people put tarps on the ground under their shade tents? Just wondering if anyone thought that would be a good idea or if the ground is hospitable enough to where i wouldn't have to put a tarp down. I know i have to put a tarp under my tent in case it rains
It seems like some cheap carpet/rugs would work better than a tarp under the shade tent. I would think it would lay better than a tarp, especially if you are going to be moving stuff around and walking on it.

He's right. Cheap rugs do a great job and they are nicer than plastic to walk on.

Put a tarp under your tent, and use another tarp to make a "wall" on one side of your shade tent - will provide shade about 12 hours out of the day and the grass will be cooler and less reflective on the floor of the shade tent.

Yes, but the tarp will prevent ventilation.
I plan on using tapestries to hang from my shade tent...that way it can breathe, and so can I.
The past two years we've brought one large tarp that fits under our tent and shade tent. It's worked well. However, last year when it rained Sunday night, I still woke up in a puddle. I guess the tarp did help cut down on mud, but it's hard to tell.

The tarp under your tent needs to be by itself and not stick out from under the tent. That is how you woke up in a puddle. You helped the water settle under your tent. Hope this helps.

Not a bad idea - I figure as long as the sun isn't beaming down on me I can stay cool... just gotta remember that I don't have to drink all my beer on the first day. I'd imagine a hangover at Roo would not be fun.

One other idea is to buy an rv patio rug. They are made of plastic and let the dirt and rain pass through, no puddles or mud to deal with. Camping World has a large selections of sizes. Here's one to look at, www.campingworld.com/browse/products/index.cfm?prodID=6121&src=SRQB
