So with gas prices beginning to hit Carter-era heights, I figure it might be useful to start a thread to keep track of local gas prices and costs around the country, seeing as many of us will be making long distance treks to Bonnaroo this summer. Gas prices most definitely figure to play a factor in overall trip costs, and I imagine could very well make or break travel plans.
So I'm in Austin, TX and most prices I've seen are in the $3.05/gallon range although I've seen some down around $2.90.
Here's a good resource to check out prices in your market: www.gasbuddy.com/
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."
3.05 is the cheapest ive seen here (just outside of atlanta) and the most is 3.20. this shiz is gettin crazy. my car already gets bad mileage and this dont help
"They won't break me because the desire for freedom, and the freedom of the Irish people, is in my heart. The day will dawn when all the people of Ireland will have the desire for freedom to show. It is then that we will see the rising of the moon."
$3.29 in Ft. Collins,Co It's out of control, thats why i ride my bike as much as i can. The 17 hour drive to roo is gonna hurt the pockets when it comes to gas.

You're not starting anything.
I don't study it or anything, but the news always acts like it is some sort of "mystery" "too complex for us to understand" why gas prices are so high. Yes, I understand supply and demand, but why can't they explain the situation clearly?
I can't even believe it when they say we (the USA) only have a 21 day supply of gas. That would really surprise me. I hope not.

Whatever.
I paid $3.09 last fill up in Nashville.
the sad thing is, there is no shortage of oil. the companies just know that we will pay it so they raise the price. ever wonder with technology so advanced why we dont run our cars on electricity? we tried, but they took them away becuase of the oil companies. check out the book who killed the electric car. the whole thing is corrupt as hell
the gas companies will smite anyone who trys to change to an alternate source without first going through them....it's like the drug companies...and politicians...hell everyone is corrupt and greedy.

so true, so true
I feel for everyone driving the distance... I am only an hour away. Whatever it takes ------ on to Bonnaroooooooooooooo.
Last year we spent around $450 for gas, towing a camper 1800 miles round trip. My truck gets around 9-10 miles to the gallon.
Personally I don't think that is bad to tow a small house behind a pickup, live in it for almost a week in the middle of a big field where a hotel is really not a option.
I think about if we flew to a island/vacation spot, rented a car, slept in a hotel and ate every meal out. I think it would cost us more then $450...
Yea it stinks that the gas that much, I remember in 99 and 2000 paying around $1 for a gallon. It's all nonsense. Oh, $2.89 a gallon here

The oil companies artificially restrict supply to drive up prices, devouring the small companies and shutting down 75% of the refineries over the last 20 years. It's simple. Make less gas and make more money.
BTW it ranges from 2.99 to 3.12 here. It goes up and/or down ten cents almost every day.

It ranges from $2.90 to $3.15ish here in Southwestern Virginia, depending on how close the gas station is to the interstate... which is unfortunate for all the Roo travelers.

You ain't kidding!
I'm sure it'll top $3.50 here soon enough. Michelle, I'm sure you'll be able to understand this -- I live out near DIA and work out in Lakewood. It costs me like $11+ for my roundtrip drive to work. Ugh. To make matters worse, I really don't live near anything...at all...so biking really isn't an option.
What I can't understand is how the oil companies are reporting RECORD PROFITS...quarter after quarter....!?!? If they're making such a profit why do the prices need to be jacked up so high?!
sabotage.. you need to look beyond the borders, what happening in Nigeria, Venezuala, and some others.. but that's what you get w/Capitalism.. they can charge whatever they want. Supply and Demand. we've been lucky w/ low prices for a long time, Europe has been this high for a long time.. but everything is more compact there, than here.. easier to bike and walk to get what you need.. i've found that the U.S. media sources don't explain enough agout what effects us, the best i've found is actually BBC.com. They don't play around.. a friend of mine works in an oil warehouse, and they received a $3500 bonus at Christmas, and this was a lowly distributor of a major brand... That would be nice, but maybe in a different job...
btw here in Des Moines, ia as of 3/22 $3.37 for regular w/o ethanol, which is a little cheaper (.04-.05).. sucks! i'm still trying to think out expenses for the trip, prolly gonna be tight!
3.30 in the Twin Cities. Projected to be over 4.00 by July. Oil companies are pushing up prices little by little to see where the breaking point is. This is such a scam.

God, is it that high now? I filled up Saturday and it was 3.29. BTW, howdy Des Moines! Nice to find someone else on here.
I did some research and found out that out of a $3 gallon of gas, the oil companies make 15 cents profit. (5%) The government (state and federal) make between 26 cents and 50 cents per gallon depending on the state. FYI
