Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Okay so my dad is in the music business and is getting us hooked up with tickets to Roo (I know, I'm spoiled!). However his connection is being kinda iffy and he recently told my dad that IF he gets us tickets that we we only get 2 instead of the 4 we had previously been told.
So I'm trying to be optimistic and plan for 2 tickets instead of 0. 0 is just unimaginable for me, especially since I don't have the funds to buy a ticket at all. The problem with the 2 is that it would be me and my best friend, both of us are 19 year old girls, and my parents and her parents have reservations about us camping over night. You might think its silly but I do understand where they are coming from.
So all that to say... we are from Franklin, which is about 25 minutes outside of Nashville. Manchester is less than an hour drive. Would it be crazy to drive home every night and drive in the next day? I mean I know we would lose much of the experience and atmosphere of Roo, but its better than causing a family uproar and we would still be there all day every day.
So has anyone done this? What are the logistics of it - is it hard to find decent parking? Is there "day parking"? Were you glad you did it? Did you feel like you missed out?
Thanks in advance, ya'll are great! And please say a prayer / cross your fingers that my tickets will come through!
There is day parking... I'd REALLY try to convince them to let you camp though!! You'll be VERY exhausted after a day at the roo and driving all the way home is... yeurgh.
I'd be MUCH more worried about you driving back and forth and being so tired (which you will be.) You're much safer just staying put than risking an accident.
Tell your parents about the extreemely low number of arrests and almost no voilent incidents. Promise to call morning, noon and night. Try to convince them.
If not though. Be careful with all that driving.
BTW, I live right off 840 near Triune. Welcome neighbor.

It will surely be more dangerous for drowsy teens who have been partying all day to drive an hour than to set up camp. But really you should just get to Bonnaroo any way you can.

You're technically an adult at 19...by law.
I say you would be better off camping rather than driving at NIGHT while you're extremely TIRED. Also, who's paying for the gas money? That's gonna add up!

Seriously though, at 19.. it really isn't their choice anymore. Do NOT push that too hard though...
Exactly.....the more you push, the more you will remind them they are getting the tickets for free for you...just be gentle with reminding them you are not a child anymore and need to be let go one day...

I will be driving in each day from Nashville and using day parking for a few reasons:
I hate camping. I won't have my fiance with me to put up my tent and there is no way in hell I am going to do it. I hate camping. I don't want to put my dogs in the kennels. I want to get some sleep - I got little to no sleep last year because of the heat, the ground, the noise etc. I hate camping!
I know for you young people that the camping and the party is a big part of it, but I've been there done that for so many years that it just doesn't interest me anymore. I am really just there for the music and the atmosphere. I don't look foward to the hour drive home every night, but I will be totally straight so I'm not worried about getting pulled over.
As for your parents worrying. I took my 14 year old daughter and camped last year and it is totally safe. I am taking her again this year (it will just be the 2 of us) and have no worries whatsoever about our safety.

I too suffered from an overbearing parent when I was younger and my suggestion is that you have them drop you off and pick you up. Whatever you have to do to appease them to let you go needs to be done. However, driving after 14+hrs of shows is dangerous. Hope to see you there!
One good argument has to be that leaving late at night after the shows makes you vulnerable to those on the road that may be less than sober. I would be up all night waiting for my kid to come home and worrying that something went wrong. Invite the folks to Friday brunch.
Thanks for all of your advice! I don't think I or my parents thought about how tired I will be, that's a good point. I will definitely bring that it up that it won't be safe to drive late at night when we are exhausted. But Oleander hit the nail on the head. Its not like I am buying these tickets myself - if I was I would have more of a leg to stand on. My dad is going through a lot to get them for me. And I can see where they are coming from, seeing as its just us two girls as opposed to 3 girls and a guy which is what it was going to be originally. Being that they aren't familiar with Bonnaroo besides the negative news coverage each year, and knowing how conservative and protective my parents are, them not putting up a fight about me going in the first place was awesome!
I would never pull the - "I'm [insert above 18 age]". Honestly, it doesn't mean anything in my house and I kinda admire my parents for that. Their response would be - "Yep, you're an adult, go live on your own and pay your own bills!" I am fortunate enough to be living at home this summer with no bills and a fridge full of food they bought to eat, so I'm practically still a "kid" even though I've been to college and I have a lot more freedom now. I respect that so I don't even go there. Yeah, it makes life less fun sometimes but in the end I'm too lazy to pick a fight I know I won't win.
At this point, me and my friend are very aware that all of this is up in the air. It was somewhat of a long shot in the beginning so all we can do is hope it all works out. We are pretty easy going girls so as long as I can be at Bonnaroo I will be happy. And if it doesn't work out I will be beyond bummed, but there's always next year.
Ahhhhh! We got 4 tickets! So we're going! AND CAMPING! I just found out today and I am beside myself with joy. I had resigned myself to not even going. Joy beyond joy!
good vibes get good results!! I am sure if you would have been a turd to your parents you would have had no luck....good Karma!

As my Inebriated buddy walks out of the Porto, he yells out, "Dude...I love this place...bonnaroo thinks about everything...they even put beer holders next to the toilet!"
Had to break it to him that that was the urnal. Good times good times!
