Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Here are a few suggestions, and id appreciate it if anyone else has anything to chip in..
1) Don't do it by yourself, have everyone with you help to put up 1 tent at a time so it goes quickly. If you came solo, try asking a neighbor for some help. If you came solo and are in camp Inforoo, then of course we'll help
2) Unpack the tent in a dry place and take all the pieces out before getting out in the rain, your objective once you are getting wet is to move as quickly as possible.
3) Remember, without your rain fly, rain WILL go through the mesh ventilation ducts usually found on the top of tents! Even before you raise your tent, try to cover these with a tarp! this is much easier if one person is soley in charge of keeping those covered.
4) Don't forget to put a tarp or floorsaver beneath your tent, and pick an area where water won't be flowing freely underneath it
5) If you have a canopy, try setting your tent up under your canopy then moving it once the rainfly and poles are in place. Then all you have to do in the rain is stake it down - Oleander
6) Set up your tent before you leave and make sure you have your rainfly! - Chefchick

The canopy first idea would work, actually one year we did that at another fest.. set up each tent beneath the canopy, moved it to its actual place, staked it down, and then set up the next tent beneath the canopy.
Without a canopy though, definately cover those vents or you'll be sleepin soggy
Rain does not sound like fun but we will deal with it - luckily - we have 3 EZ ups that we are taking - so setting up tents under the shade canopies will be no problem.
My question is this - should I waterproof the EZ up also - we did not last year but we hade a plastic like shade canopy - the EZ up cover is more like fabric

You don't need to waterproof them but DO set them up in advance, for practice and to avoid my situation. I had a brand new one that came out of the box broken - and I was in the field already. I was a very sad Moonie at Waka and Bonnaroo without that bad boy.

I gotta eazy up gazebo and wrap for it. They sell em at walmart for like $85, and $20 for the wrap, in case you were thinking of a tent, the easy up gazebo might be better, then bring a rug to throw down inside....it's 12X12, lots of rooom
My ez up tent has a canvas like top that is NOT waterproof. It says so in the directions I got with it. I bought some silicone spray at the Wickedmart today for under $5. I hope it works. The good stuff would have cost $30 on line. If it doesn't work, I plan to get a large thin painter's tarp to put over it and tape that sucker on so the wind won't blow it away.
boz here,,,we used the painter's sheets last year, just didn't get it over the tent good enough. but a great idea and the silicone spray does work used that also just spray everything this week weather permitting. then pack up and be ready to motor...
It's a good idea to practice setting up your tent in advance so you know how to do it quickly and can make sure everything is there, especially if it is new or you are borrowing it. Trust me, I learned this the hard way. The first fest I went to was The Great Went. After driving for about thirteen hours and waiting in line to get in for several more. We finally park at about 4:19 am. So there we are at 4:30 in the morning in the pouring rain trying to set up some twenty year old cabin tent that my friend borrowed from his dad's friends. After about an hour we finally get it up, open the door, and pop inside. It was raining inside the tent, we didn't have a rain cover for it. Just as we were all about to say 'oh crap' a gust of wind blows the thing over on us. Four of us ended up spending the night in my Jeep that was packed full with all our gear. Very comfy.
Oh the memories, supprised there are any left. In the end there was a happy ending to this story. The next morning we ran into a friend of mine that was there with her boyfriend in his VW van. They had a big cabin tent already set up, but decided that they were gonna sleep in the van and let us use the tent. The moral of the story is be prepared and practice setting up your tent before you leave.
I am so honored to have been answered by the elusive Boz!!!!! I'm glad I was thinking in the right direction.
I have removed my ez up's canopy and it is now hanging over the porch rail and two rocking chairs. I was suprised at how easy, I mean ez it was to remove. It is held in place by only 4 screws, one in the middle of each side. When it is up the corners help hold it on tight. I just couldn't figure out how to get it sprayed in the up position. The vision of a large lady at the top of a ladder leaning over to spray all areas 6-8 inches from the canvas just didn't seem workable. I do want to be in one piece at the 'roo and especially with nothing broken on me!
OT but on a side note-- I filled my new black shower bag with water today to see if I can get clean with it. It looks like a paltry stream of water-- I dont' know if I want to take a nekkid shower in the back yard to find out, but heck you only live once, right? Glad it is all woods back there!
Okay, here's an update for my Ez up waterproofication... No go... I sprayed the test spray in an inconspicuous place and it turned yellow when it dried. Not a pretty yellow, but an "eww he pissed the bed" yellow. This was the Walmart purchase-- it's called Silicone Water-Guard. I'm taking it back. I guess it is back to the tarp over the shade tent idea for rain protection. What I'm wondering is if the tarp will make the shade tent like an oven.
Oh and about the nekkid shower in the back yard at way past dusk. I got clean, and didn't even use the whole 5 gallons, but oh them 'skeeters I couldn't see. I have bites in places I shouldn't --- so if you see a lady scratching herself all over, it might be me!
