Had to break it to him that that was the urnal. Good times good times!

The extendable poles use by painters fro paint rollers work great for holding up tarps. They change from 6 to 12 feet and allow you to adjust as necessary
if you have a canopy you can tie a tarp to it and extend over to your tents making a 2nd covered area. Cools your campsite down everywhere you will walk to and from your tent will be many degrees lower than the surrounding area. Saved us some sleeping time
Tarps or shade over tent are a must. Rain happens and if you have shade up (pop up or tarps) you don't need to worry about the rain fly. (NOTE: watch where things will drain, rains can be heavy). I just purchased a 10 x 10 at SportMart for $84 - with that over my tent I've also got a nice shade area for a couple of chairs outside my tent.
Also, last year, we worked really well with the others camped around us to find common tie off points and such so that everyone had shade and rain cover. It worked really well - not like anyone drove anywhere until Sunday afternoon..... !

i've been trying to find a decent canopy to get, but all the ones I've seen don't seem very durable, or are WAY to expensive? Is there any way to make a diy canopy like thing, just to put over the tent and have a shadey place to sit under during turtle time at the camp?
Kmart has a decent 10'x10' canopy for around $25. You would probably spend close to that trying to diy. It's got fiberglass poles that form a dome on the canopy so you don't need a center pole, and the corner poles are pretty sturdy. You could try to diy with a tarp and some poles (pvc might work), but it's hard to do without a pole to hold up the middle of the tarp.

Yeah, I will say, Shade is essential!!! Don't screw around. At the last second last year our friend who had rood before said, "Yeah, you guys might want to bring some sort of shade" so we went to wal mart the night before we left and bought this
It sucked terribly. I mean it was better than nothing, but because the fabric on tob was tan and somewhat translucent, it almost seemed hotter under this thing.
I guess I won't know how well it works till next week. Also picked up a battery powered fan to help circulate air in the tent in the morning. $20 at Gander Mountain Sporting Goods
^^ I bought that same one at Sports Authority for 60...and we used it for my sons bday party on Sunday and it works GREAT! I wish I would have bought two! Seriously though, its easy to put up and its nice and cool underneath in the month of june in Florida.

Yes its $$, but... I set it up by myself in the dark in a few minutes.. Really simple. Everything is clip or velcro. My parents said they would even buy it off me after roo since they wanted it for backyard parties. Also you can guy wind/screen/fans accessories for your Canopy. Its very very nice. If you want something quailty you wont have to worry about. I recommed this. Mine is actually the model above this one. Adjustable and all that extra ish. Im tall so i'd like to be able to walk under without ducking.
