I used to always use boxed wine for festivals and camping. Just take the pouch out of the box and put in the cooler.
The one I usually get is Franzia white blush. It costs about $16 for 5 liters - can't beat that and really isn't bad wine. If you are wine expert then obviously it wouldn't work but imo it's perfectly good wine.
Corbett Canyon pinot grigio is nice and refreshing on a hot day. And it's super cheap--3 liters for around $11. I second trippindaisy: out of the box, into the cooler.
Your best bet would be to buy the most expensive boxed wine that they sell... They aren't that expensive in the first place anyway. I'd say that you'd probably get the best bang for your buck if you were drinking white wine. Varietals of white wine such as chardonnay, pinot grigio, riesling, and sauvignon blanc are all considered the best summer whites. Pleeeeease don't drink white zin. It's a sin!
You might be able to find an ok red in a box, but I wouldn't drink anything heavier than a pinot noir or sangiovese... Anything heavier than that will probably end up tasting really cheap.
King B and I plan on threshing a bit of vino when we get to Roo! We'll probably be bringing some fine cheese as well! Anyone is welcome to join us!
I found some really cool Vendange foil bottles of Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay that were small and portable (only 500 mL each). They have a reclosable cap on them (like you see on soy milk containers). They were only 3.99 each at my local liquor superstore. I bought 6 of them......good to have on hand, and I can always drop them into the cooler, as needed.
We found Almaden Sangria at our local grocery for about $13.99 for a box; it's not too bad and can easily be jazzed up... www.almaden.com/home.htm
We also found French Rabbit wines - they aren't big boxes, about the size of a small box of Silk Soy Milk/1 liter and they are like $7 each. Not bad for boxed wine, and nice that they are small and portable... www.frenchrabbit.com/

if there are no box wines you like get some grape juice and drink it then refill with wine take some glue and go lightly around the cap so it looks like its not been opened. i was gonna do this with my moms homemade wine cause its in a glass bottle but decided to drink it last night.

The liquor store I go to in Murfreesboro, TN has Corbett Canyon for 9.99.

i bought one of my favorites....three thieves wine!!! it tastes amazing, and bonus, it's in a resealable box! yay! i second the french rabbit!!! and whoever said not to get a red wine in a box because it will taste cheap, i beg to differ....i have found some great boxes of red wine. they're some of the more expensive ones, yes, but still very inexpensive for a good red! i've got my three thieves, i'm good to go
oh, and three theives is around $9, and you can get it at any target store that sells beer & wine!!
and whoever said not to get a red wine in a box because it will taste cheap, i beg to differ....i have found some great boxes of red wine. they're some of the more expensive ones, yes, but still very inexpensive for a good red!
The reason I said that is because if you're used to drinking a "good" red, box wines just don't even come close to comparing in body or tannin content. White wines don't rely so much on those characteristics. I'll prob be picking up some box red and white... I drink good wine all the time at work... doesn't hurt to drink other stuff. As long as you're having a good time, who cares!
Franzia is decent for inexpensive festival/box wine (no glass). A nice thing about that brand is the shut-off VALVE. Once the wine is gone, you can clip the top corner of the bag, rinse, and “MacGyver” the empty wine bag into a (disposable) solar shower. Only duct tape and/or some other creative innovations needed…
