So my bottles of water are in the freezer, ready to go. I live close to Manchester so we aren't leaving until Thursday morning. My question is: with the frozen bottles of water and some ice, how long before its all melted? We have medium sized coolers.
Also, my mom was trying to get me to use styrofoam coolers instead of her "nice" coolers. Do they stay cold as well?

I am sure that mom had the best in mind, but DO NOT listen to her in this case! They won't last long, and they are horrible for the environment! Take a chance with the "nice" ones. Good luck and maybe we will meet up. Take care of you.

I have a 5 day cooler and have frozen one case of water, two gallon jugs, and 4 bigger bottles. I plan on putting this in the cooler with ice...how long do you all think it will last?

Im just bringing a medium size cooler, but packing it with ice and a case of frozen water bottles. Earlier someone mentioned just opening them once a day to transfer food and ice to another cooler will make it last longer, but im not sure if my stuff will make it through the weekend

I have 2 cases of water on ice right now. 1 not on ice. we are bringing a medium sized cooler with dry ice and a small styrofoam one to "thaw" the water out in (my parents already owned the styro so don't jump on me!).
The time to melt for coolers depends GREATLY on the quality of the cooler. The real good ones usually say "5-day" on them (which is optimistic). What you put in the cooler matters too, try to get everything cold before you put it in. All ice is not equal! So, ice has to be at least as low as 0C to be ice, but it can be a lot colder. Ice that has been in you freezer is probably about -20C, ice you get in the store might not be that cold. The "wetter" the ice feels, the warmer it is.
I have a question....is it necessary to open the bottles of water and pour out a little before freezing? I have a test bottle in the freezer right now as a test.
^^^ Not usually necessary. The bottles will expand enough with the ice and be o.k. They get a little bent out of shape, but should stay sealed. (at least it's worked that way when I've done it)

Cool...thanks for the info...that is what i was hoping. I can usually knock one out in a few pulls, so I'm not worried about it getting a little bent out of shape and not standing up on a table...cool, I think I am going to throw my half in the freezer and then mix it with the room temp. water my friend is bringing.
We're taking a second cooler to load up each morning. Also, don't forget to take some unfrozen water. Dollar General (if they're in your neighborhood) has gallons for a dollar. Figures. Anyway trying to wash your face with ice is not always pleasant.

I saw on one of the Bonnaroo sites that they do not wanting you to bring styrofoam coolers...I am assuming because of environmental reasons...go green people, go green
Well, like someone else said, my parents already had the sytrofoam coolers so might as well use them if we already have them. My stepdad said they would actually work better than the "nice" coolers that my parents have, so that may say something about their coolers! I definitely don't think they are 5-day.
We are definitely going to try to avoid opening and closing the coolers a lot, and keep them in the shade, and we are also leaving Saturday night. (I know, I know, I can't believe we are missing the Decemberists and the White Stripes, but you gotta do what you gotta do.) So do you think we'll have to buy more ice at some point? I can't imagine its fun lugging overpriced ice from Centeroo to camp.
Ahh... I can't believe we leave tomorrow morning! I'm starting to get all nervous, that we won't have enough food or we'll forget something!
Okay so thinking about the food... might as well just ask since I'm obsessing. This is the food we have for 4 people. We aren't planning on eating 3 meals a day at camp - I'm expecting everyone to buy food sometimes, too. And we are leaving Saturday night, like I said. Yes, bummer.
- Two loaves of sliced bread - Two packages of lunch meat (turkey and ham) - One package of sliced cheese - A jar of peanut butter - Homemade brownies, about 16 (the regular kind) - A box of granola bars, 10 bars - A "Snack Pack" thing with 3 different kinds of individually packaged snacks, 3 of each - A box of Pop Tarts, 4 little foil packets with 2 poptarts each - A veggie tray - A fruit tray
Is that enough?? I really am bad at math, and I don't know what to expect as far as how hungry we will be and how reasonably priced the food available will be.
As far as beverages, we have 105 bottles of water so thats almost 9 per person per day so that's fine. I only got two 2-liters of soda... might need more of that...
Wow. So this is me just thinking out loud. But it helps! I don't know what I would have done without ya'll.

i'm buying block ice in three hours when we hit the road. last year a friend did this for Wakarusa and there were still four huge blocks by the time we left for home... just topped it off daily with some bagged ice for good measure. probably should mention that we have one of the 5day'ers though...
I also put a case of h2o in the freezer...should have done that in years past!
