I have the coleman 5-day extreme cooler, and I was wondering if it was neccessary for me to get dry ice. Dry ice is pretty expensive here (1.50/lb) and can be a hassle. Would I just be better freezing my water bottles and using ice?
1 day, 9 hours until the greatest time of my life!
We always used a five-day without dry ice and it worked out well and we never had to buy ice. By the time the fest was over, the ice was water, but it was cold enough for me. You can always buy a bag or two of ice on the farm if you really need it. Dry ice seems like a hassle, but some people swear by it.
EDIT: let me add that we kept our ice chest in the hot, hot, hot car (no tint on the windows), so a five-day cooler may do better if you take it out of the car and keep it in the shade.
I used dry ice last year with bottles of frozen water. When Bonnaroo was over, I still had frozen bottles of water. I do not believe I will use it again this year. If you mostly fill your cooler, and especially if you have a 5 dfay cooler, you will be ok.

I thought it was so important to get last year. Turns out it was really a waste of money. You can get ice daily pretty cheap from the locals on the main road if you don't mind the walk.
yeah youre covered with out the dry ice. i bring two regular Coleman coolers each year, fill them both with ice, leave one untouched and in the shade until we need it and we always have some ice left at the end of the fest.
i've used dry ice covered in the bottom of the cooler the last couple of years and i'm sold on it - kept me from having to buy and haul icebags all weekend. however, i did have one incident where it froze some food solid.
