Well, my friends and I have decided that we may not be as young and spry as we used to be. We were pretty beat by Sunday. Anyway, we are discussing either going VIP with tents or renting an RV and going GA next year. I don't think we can afford/justify to the wives both. If you had to pick one or the other, which would it be and why?
I think - If I was going to go back next year - I could easily justify an RV over VIP. The ability to sleep later in the mornings and have an air conditioned place to take a break far outweighs the benefits of VIP for me.
I don't think the walk would be quite as hard on me with an adequate amount of sleep.
This was the first year I had a spot up against the tree-line in GA, and I was able to sleep in until at least 10:30am each day. It made all the difference in the world. The 30-minute walk to Centeroo seemed a lot shorter and I still had energy for the late-night shows. I couldn't easily go back to the campsite during the day, but I never do that anyway (noon to 4am in Centeroo is my standard OP).
An RV would be a much better deal to me than VIP (since I would have shaded sleeping ), if I had to pick one or the other (RV w/VIP would be ideal, but that'll never happen for me).
I've never done the RV thing, but I can definately see the benefits. I have done VIP twice now, and will most likely be doing it again next year. I had a shade canopy over my tent with two tent fans, and slept pretty well on an air mattress. It was really nice to be able to listen to a few shows from my shady campsite sitting next to my coooler. It was also nice to be able to go back and forth in between shows to freshen up and grab a cold drink and not have to go through security. There was also the air coditioned VIP tent with nice comfy leather couches to relax in. I even streached out for a short nap one afternoon. I'd say go VIP.

I agree with chefchick completely...besides air conditioning...I don't really see a benefit to an RV at all....just the ease of VIP is what makes it so appealing...no line, no security checks, headliners sound clear as a bell at your tent...it's the only way to go!
The best investment is probably the RV, assuming you're going to use it for stuff other than Roo. If you're just buying it for Roo, I'd say spend the money on other stuff and go VIP
Personally, I'd rather be in an RV in GA than camping in VIP-- but that's just me. It's not just for the air conditioning, but also for the containment of the elements in the mornings (sound, dust, heat and most of all, sunlight) allowing for much later sleeping.
well we have our own rv and we went vip with it .. but if i was in your shoes i'd go vip with a tent and invest in the biggest quickshade you canget your hands on .. that way you dont have to pump the crap outta the rv ($40) the baths are air conditioned, and showers are free. vip . all the way
and the added gas for the rv . and a generator,i'd save the $$$ and go vip with a tent. and do it with style
Personally, I loved having an RV...there's the privacy factor..something about having your OWN bathroom that men probably don't understand The AC and comfort factor (real beds!), being able to cook real meals and have a REAL REFRIGERATOR AND FREEZER.....we had margaritas all weekend...real plus for us! OK, so notsomuch for everyone, but you get the picture...it's more of a homey kinda thing. And being able to get in out of the dust was really nice. Yeah, the 20 minute walk for some would offset it, but it really didn't bother me near as much as not having someplace cool and homey to just go crash and go AHHHH!
We are hoping to do three or four festivals next summer and if all works out for us we will probably shell out five to six thousand for a small used trailer with AC. I'd rather a decent little trailer than a motorhome
As I was walking around this year and looking at all the generator systems all over Centeroo I really started thinking about the cost of those generators vs. the cost of wiring the farm for power. If they make the investment and wire Centeroo for regular power to avoid the recurring cost of those generator systems, they might as well set up an RV section with at least power hookups.
We'll wait until January to pull the trigger, but I am really leaning this direction for '08.

dear god, RV. i have done roo 3 years 2 camping, 1RV, and no ive not done VIP BUTTTTTTTTTT the one thing that makes the most sense to me , is AIRCONDITIONING so you can sleep in til 11am, instead of waking up at 8 in the sweltering heat. That to me, outweighs VIP. But thats me.
I'd say both, if funding were unlimited. But if forced to make a choice, in your position, I'd do some research first. Read the "Convince me to go VIP" threads here in the That Tent and What Stage portions of the forum. See what people have to say about the value of what you get with VIP. See if it feels right for you. Then start calculating what GA with RV will cost you. Are you renting an RV? Find out what that will cost. Calculate what gas, to and from, will cost. What will it cost you to run the generator, once you're there? How many times will you need to pay to fill up your water? To empty septic? Dear GOD, I would love to live the 'Roo in air-conditioned comfort, but it ain't cheap if you're renting and bring along a crew large enough to require a lot of money to upkeep the RV, while you're there. Crunch the numbers. Consider what's important to you. One way or the other will probably start looking as if it will be the best decision for your crowd, if you do that. Good luck. Either way, you'll certainly see advantages!

The cost is renting the RV, not so much running the generator, water or dumping the waste tanks. For more information some of the costs read This
VIP was well worth it to me, the space allowed was much greater than that of GA and the distance to Centeroo was short. It alllowed for trips back to the truck to get drinks food, or take a quick nap in the AC. The security getting in through VIP was quick and painless. We carried a small cooler in when we went through with no problems. THAT being said, it still sucked major bung to wake up at 7:30 in the AM in the sweltering heat!!! So I am thinking VIP and a small travel trailer with AC. Then it would be ideal. If I have the cash for an RV and VIP that is!!
Oh hell yeah, happy day for me!!!!!!!!!!! I just purchased a 24 ft dodge motorhome with propane, fridge, AC, flush TOILET....and an on board generator.....yahoooo....$$1200.00 Happy birthday to me......
I couldnt imagine going to Bonnaroo without an RV!!!
Out thermomater on the side of our RV read 116 degrees on Friday! Sleeping in a tent would just be painful. Not having your own bathroom or a shower would have made the weekend a chore for my wife and I.
We werent in VIP, just parked with all the other RV's back towards the back, but if we were to go again, I think I would spring for the RV in the VIP section. It would save you a ton of time walking back and forth, and you would be close enough to the Main Stage, you could basically sit on the roof of the RV and watch many of the shows.
You also have a refrigerator to keep the drinks cold! ;D
Go RV, and you'll enjoy yourselves much more for the added cost

We did the RV and it was wonderful. I use it for other things, but I felt that it was perfect for conditions in Manchester. My only question is would I have been better off keeping my wonderful campsite at KOA for Bonnaroo. So I would like to know more from those that did stat at KOA. I love camping at Roo and it we were in handicap (I am older <g>) so we were near the home for the ice and near the main road off the Interstate for entry on Thursday like over two set of camps and then we were about 4 RV sites back from the road that I think KOA used and I think we were near one of the stages. Anyway it was a wonderful location, just far enough away from everything to be good camping.
So back to my question did anyone stay at KOA that had also stayed at Roo before??
