Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
For skirts and dresses, I actually recommend going at least knee-length. Then you can sit cross-legged on the ground and not flash anyone or end up sitting with nothing underneath you. Plus they're better for dancing and catching breezes.
This made me laugh out loud. Last year during Cat Power's set, I was overly concerned with people being able to see my underwear when I noticed a couple of young women in front of me who were wearing COMPLETELY SHEER BRAS and nothing else. Figured no one would be interested in my underwear with them around. ;D
On the subject of making clothes for 'Roo, I noticed JoAnn's was selling bolts of fabric with smocking on top and then just plain fabric. You could simply seam and hem it for a simple sundress, or find coordinating fabric and do alternating large ruffles/tiers for a maxi dress.
I'll be wearing yoga and bike shorts under my skirts and dresses so I'm not worried about flashing. I like to jump and do cartwheels and one-legged hooping and I learned as a child that shorts under skirts is the best idea ever.
As for making clothes, it's funny you should mention the smocked fabric, Sassbox. I bought a short one from Joanne's; it's pink with a gradiant rainbow color all the way down. As a dress on my 4'11" tall self, the hem comes to about 2 inches past my butt, so supershort dress but can be worn as a skirt as well! I love double-duty clothing.
I'll post photos of the stuff I've made and am about to make once it's all done. :-)
Hmmm, the stuff I saw at JoAnn's was definitely long enough to be a knee-length dress on me, and I'm 5'7.
I need to take a pic of a dress I just bought. It has smocked fabric at the top (it's strapless), but then it has alternating "layers" of ruffles...well, not really ruffles, per se, more like gathered material in alternating layers. Okay, I just did a horrible job explaining it. I'll take a pic when I unpack and post it.
I have not been here in forever! Hey ladies, I am back and getting mytickets tomorrow.
I am going to go look for a couple of cheap dresses for Roo but I am not putting too much thought into what I am going to wear. I am just going to pack a ton of clean undies and go with the flow this year. I brought a tone of cute stuff last year like long flowing skirts but ended up wearing just the most comfy and cool stuff I could. I wore a pair of bike shorts under little dresses and that worked out really well!
#1 important item, rainboots and comfy flip flops.
has anyone worn the croc mary janes? i love my crocs and the mary janes look soo cute but im afraid..any feedback?? thanks!!
i wore them last year, and i would say crocs are the way to go but i haven't tried anything else this year i'm going to be bringing them along with sanuks
i was hoping joann would carry the smock fabric again but i am doubtful that i can up my seam/hem skills in time for roo. also the smocked dress at target that i loved isnt in any store within like 1mil miles in my size. boo shipping on an $18 dress. same prob with two i found at walmart. booooo! i wonder why i am having such a hard time finding what i want. its always the way. when i want something specific i can never find it but when i have no $ or need, things abound. crap-o.
dharma is cool though good link. i keep meaning to buy stuff form them to batik but tht project keeps getting thrown to the wayside. got kiddo a tie dye kit and we are going to do up some sheets for shade and probably some tanks/dresses if i can ever find something local.
i hate shipping. same prob with the grill i want, not in any stores, all sold out. already had to order my screen house and tent online. sick of waiting for shipping!!!
^I'm totally with you on shipping... I hate waiting and moreso hate paying for it. BUT I believe a lot of stores have a deal where if you want something they don't have in-store, but offer online, you can have it shipped to the nearest store without having to pay any shipping, and they will hold it for you and call when it arrives... I'm almost positive Target and evil Wal*Mart both offer this (but don't hold me to that). I'm sure you could definitely call the store and ask. And good luck with the tying! I'm also doing the same to some sheets and shirts and a slipcover this weekend ;D I'm really excited because I do all my tie dying outside (for some reason I'm waaay too messy so it's just easier that way) so I haven't been able to do it all Winter. I just hope it's pretty this weekend.
Edit: Okay, so upon further investigation:
www.walmart.com/catalog/catalog.gsp?cat=538452#37414 Wal*Mart most definitely offers what they call "Site to store free shipping". Target, on the other hand, appears not to offer anything similar.... Apparently their online services are completely separate from any individual store. Boo hiss!

You could always use that no-sew stuff that fuses the fabric for seams, hems, etc.
Here's the dress I bought. I think it can be sewn relatively easily using that smocked fabric from JoAnn, plus some coordinating fabric. It's a maxi (ankle-length) and very comfortable. Sorry about the pictures...I just pulled the dress from my suitcase!

thanks. +karma i ordered my canopy/screen thingy from sports authority and ha to have it shipped here because the only two places that carried the one i want, SA and dick's both have online ops that are separate from the store. they dont even have the model i want in store. anywhere. so annoying. its here now though. thx for the research. might have wally order the dress i saw that they only had in tiny girl size.
heh, yeah, we dye outside too. kiddo and i are messy messy girls.
Sass - Adorable dress. I am taking my sewing class at JoAnns on Monday night - I anticipate a lot of purchasing before class gets started. I will have to check out that smocked fabric too! And perfect timing - I'll ask my instructor if there is a special seam to use when making a tube dress with the smocked fabric...
On another craft note - for any ladies that would be interested in a knitted "bonnaroo" headband (see thread page 133 for pics!), I am going to knit like crazy this weekend and next week, and post them in my new Etsy store (CraftMayo.etsy.com) soon. We're only 4 weeks away, and I want to make sure that any of you who want can get before we go! Here are the yarns I have, for anyone who wants to request your colors www.sugarncream.com/product.php?LGC=sugarncream&SPP=999 hot orange, hot purple, hot green, violet veil ombre (in one of the pics), creamsicle, and one of the lighter creams.
On monday I"ll be in joanns, so if you want a different color scheme (I realize I have NO blues....) just let me know! i want to increase my yarn collection anyway. OR I can make the bands LONGER with no wording... and they would make great belts for all those damn KARIZAS we all bought a few months ago!!!
On a kinda personal note - You guys have inspired me to take the first step in my dream of (one day) leaving this cubicle job (years from now) and crafting for a living. Hence, finally opening up an Etsy store (been on my list of things to do for a while), and posting my rather amateur projects for the public to see. So THANKS! Im really excited about it!

I guarantee you will not care about your arms I am 42 and wear short little sundresses that I would not normally wear and I don't give a damn what I look like, as long as I am comfortable and as cool as possible.

yeah, agreed. i mean, i survive in the texas summer without going sleeveless, but i have a hunch roo is a different situation. i bought a cute summer dress recently that i can't wait to frolic in like a little hippie.

and karma for the support!
Yep i live an hour from Roo and am very used the the TN heat, but it is absolutely nothing like being in it for 4 days with little shade, and little cool. You just can't really get away from the heat there. I will be frolicking away in my cute little dresses also ;D
Do you feel the need to wear a bra with it? Or does the strap-up back provide enough support to leave out the bra? I'm a c-cup and I'm very wary letting the ladies "be free" lol...

I'm a C too and get frustrated with not being able to wear those cute dresses. I hate letting the girls hang free, I need support. Try and bikini top underneath. I did that last year.....or maybe a bandeau bra like this one:
has anyone worn the croc mary janes? i love my crocs and the mary janes look soo cute but im afraid..any feedback?? thanks!!
Yup, out and about in Murfreesboro and I wear them for outdoor hooping all the time. I love 'em but I'm hoping my feet don't get too hot in the summer. The way the weather has been here lately, I'm sure to find out in the next couple of weeks.
thanks for the adviceon the mary janes i may get a pair and at least start to rock them and see how they feel..shipping ladies is a pain but however a little trick is with target in particular.. u spend 50 bucks u get free shipping but how ever whatever u dont want u can bring back to a store and return..i know its crazy but u could get another sundress u dont know if u like and maybe even keep it..target is the best on returns and they ship quick
I have mary jane crocs, bought them exclusively for Roo, and I loved them! They will definitely be coming back this year. They aren't as tacky as the regular Crocs, and (for me) they are still super comfortable.
Mayonaise- if we buy a headband via your etsy store, can you bring it to us at Roo??

I just got back from Kohl's and they have really really great dresses for Bonnaroo. This week they are Buy One Get One Free (works out about $20 each).
I got one for me and one for my daughter. Some of them are really thin cotton and perfect for hot days. I don't see either of them on their website - they have far more selection in store. Mine is floor length with a little flounce at the bottom and smocked across the chest. They had them in all colors and patterns.

I bought a pair of light pink mary jane crocs at roo last year. I was wearing my tennies and was perfectly comfortable but I really liked the crocs and had some cash burning a hole in my pocket on Saturday. I have never worn crocs before so I can not compare the mary janes v. the classic croc but I was in heaven as soon as I put them on. I remember laughing out loud (a serious lol) and saying "I'm walking on a cloud!" It was amazing.
On a different note... anyone have any tips or tricks for keeping shorter hair up in a pony all day? I hate using a million bobby pins and those lil clasp thingys seem to just fall right out. Any ideas??
Great tip on Kohl's! I hope it is buy one get one free @ my Kohl's too, I suppose it will be.
I am sad b/c my fave flip flops are starting to falla apart but I think I am still gonna try to wear them @ Roo b/c they are so comfy. I can't find another pair like them. They are from Old Navy but I guess they quit making them. I have looked online everywhere and can't find anywhere to buy them.

This is exactly why I have about a million pretty scarves. I have above the should length hair. Scarves hold it back and hide the sweaty nastiness. You can wear them about a million ways.
