After subsisting on vendor food almost exclusively my first two Bonnaroos, I've decided to try to bring my own food this year. I'd like to have more of a souvenir than just the belly-ache that comes with 4 days of drinking and fried things.
I've been thinking of what sort of homecooked foods I could bring. One of my ideas was to make and freeze chili, in 1 qt containers. (If all goes according to plan, I'll be feeding myself, my boyfriend, my sister, and my BF's brother) I've read advice on here about freezing water bottles and using them in a 5 day cooler like ice packs, does anyone think there would be a problem doing this with food?
If anyone has any similar experience with homemade food at Bonnaroo, I'd love to hear it!
A few of my friends were vending food on shakedown a couple of years ago. They were doing Jerk Chicken wraps among other things. They cooked the chicken ahead of time and froze it in zip-lock bags. It worked out great. Everything stayed nice and cold all weekend. I've flown the last two years so I didn't really bring any food with me. This year I think I'm going to drive, and was was planning on freezing a lot of the food.
The first thing that comes to mind is Chili, but I see you've already got that one covered
You could do homemade spaghetti and meatballs, just cook the sauce and meatballs and freeze them together. You could also make meatball grinders if you dont feel like making pasta at camp.
Soup freezes well, and while you probably dont want to eat hot soup at bonnaroo you could do a cold one or save it for when it's cooler out at night.
I think I lost about 10 lbs at Bonnaroo this past year. I guess it was from all the running around in the heat, and not eating so much. However, we did pretty much live on a diet of HD's and baked beans.

i marinated some steaks and then froze them and threw them in the cooler, we ate them on saturday and they were damn good. i also prewrapped some potatoes in foil and threw them on the grill with the steaks. that was the best meal we had all weekend.
