Hi all,
If all goes well, I'll be Greyhounding to my first Bonnaroo this year (yay!) I'm very much looking forward to meeting new people and seeing some great bands (including my all-time favorite band Pearl Jam, who I've never had the opportunity to see live.) I'm SO pumped, but it's looking to be a bit of a logistical nightmare in some ways. A few questions:
1) My Greyhound will put me in Manchester at 9am on Thursday. How far is the walk from the bus terminal to the festival grounds, and how long can I expect to wait in line to get in?
2) Is there a certain time I have to be off the grounds by on Monday? The reason I ask is that my bus won't arrive until 6pm -- I was wondering if I can just wander around until then, or if I have to be off the property at a certain time.

This is what I've taken from other threads, because I have been thinking about doing it. Google maps says it's 1.7 miles from the freeway entrance to Bonnaroo, exit 112. From what I hear on here the walk is about two miles, but I have heard of people being picked up by random other people.
Everyone who is not a post show volunteer must be off the farm by 4 PM on Monday. Is there no bus arriving earlier?
Have you ever taken a greyhound before? If not, be prepared, it can be awkward for a minute. I hope I helped. If you have any more questions, ask away man. That's what we're here for!

Thanks so much for the info! Unfortunately I can't find an earlier bus that can get me back home in time for work on Tuesday, but I don't mind waiting around the bus stop for a few hours, so no biggie. I'm planning on bringing some reading material, plus I'll probably be writing a long-ass festival diary, so there'll be plenty of stuff to keep me occupied.
I do have one more question, though -- I've never taken a Greyhound before. What do you mean by "awkward for a minute?"

I mean that there are generally some super shady individuals, a lot of crying babies, and lots of stops on these buses. You'll get used to it, and on the way to 'roo, I'm sure there's going to be at least one person leaving the city with you and going to 'roo. If you find that person(s?) you should have the time of your life. I'm seriously contemplating greyhounding it this year. Pack some treats, and have a good time!

Hahaha...this is so true!!! I used to take the greyhound home from school all the time (kentucky to indiana). It can definitely be a culture shock if you're not prepared for it. It should be a blast though. Enjoy your trip and see you at Roo!
Now you just told me that friendship is all I'm forced to repair the breech in my wall Illusions and dreams, as usual, it seems Sabra girl, they've been my downfall

Awkward for a minute can be an understatement though!
I've had friends who have had AMAZING experiences, and others who would rather get their widsom teeth pulled than taking a long greyhound trip.
I think if you have your headphones or ear buds on and listen to some music or read, no one will really mess with you. Just look like you're busy though, lol.

the bus sation is like 2.5 miles from roo according to google maps AND that is the shortest route which is jumping onto I-24. Otherwise it looks like you're gonna have to walk all through town which could take a minute. Walkin on the interstae is illegal so I bet you could just hitch a ride from fellow rooers to get you the rest of the way there.
and last year I thinkthe grounds closed Monday at 5:00pm
I will bussing it with a friend from Charleston WV and Tent only camping, which I hope will be a good experience. It will also limit the amount of unnessacery thing we bring.

You're not kidding. I took one from Flagstaff to Lake Havasu one time, and I swear the guy behind me had tuberculosis. And, there was a guy in the back seat who laid across all of the seats and was groaning the entire time. I wanted to take a shower the minute I got off that bus.
My friends and I are thinking about Greyhounding it from Canada. It's much cheaper than flying and we're not really interested in driving home ourselves for 2-3 days after the 4 day festival. Do you think it would be easier to bus to Nashville and try to catch one of the shuttles to the festival or to bus to Manchester and try to walk or find a ride from there?
Does anyone know how much the shuttles cost, where you catch it, and how often it runs?
Hmm...well, my assumption would be that your Greyhound would land you in Nashville before departing for Manchester anyway...and the Greyhound station is not close to the airport (where you catch the shuttle), so it might be easier to Greyhound it.
The obvious plus to taking the shuttle would be that you would be dropped off right at tent-only, and you'd meet some cool people.
As far as how often the shuttle runs, I have no idea.
I know Wooz and Dani (Boomerang) did the bus last year - I would pm him and ask him about it - At any rate - I am sure as it gets closer - there will be people that are willing to give you a ride from the station or wal-mart over to the farm
