A friend of mine who is coming up from Birmingham said he looked at renting a 25-foot RV for $800. I'm not sure what that included. My guess is the further you are from Manchester, the better the deals you'll find. We looked at a private rental that was $3,000...but it was luxe.

I did a little checking just out of curiosity. First I checked about renting in NY and driving and that was somewhere around $1000 for an RV that could hold up to 7 people...plus a deposit that made it more like $1400. No way my friends were going to want to pay that kinda money when a lot of people are waffling about the ticket price, so that was a no go. Then I checked about renting in Knoxville...and got a message saying it couldn't be completed due to limited availability - they must be almost booked already! All of this was on Cruise America, I haven't really looked anywhere else. I've basically given up on the idea, although I might still check about a smaller RV, since it occurred to me that we could bring an RV and a car (and tent) and sort of switch around who was sleeping where...although that would probably be more trouble than it'd be worth.

My budget is $2000 coming from Toronto - so with about 1700 miles, and I think we'll end up spending that for an average RV. 25-28 footer. Build in generator. Model no more than 5 years old.
Ther is a lot of fine print in those online quotes, like limited mileage, deposits. I would rather have more $$ in my pocket for Roo than have an RV for the Roo, but there are some people there that blow thousands of dollars on Roo, my limit is 1000 dollars for the whole trip, gas and everything.
Fuel cost, looking at the above posts I figured I would chime in on fuel costs. With my Ford truck and 23' Jayco trailer we get around 10 miles per gallon. Knowing people who have class C motorhomes you will find around the same gas milage.
Our cost for gas is around $480 round trip. It is around 830 miles each way (1660 round trip) from Northern New Jersey. Gas last year averaged around $2.80 a gallon.
The rental companies also have a hour meter on the generators. I don't know the charge per hour, but it is something to look into.

think ours was like 1300 for a 27 footer... from NJ. they're definitely not cheap, and it might be kind of hard to find one anywhere close to roo even this early (people jump on the reservations really quickly)
to be safe i'd budget at least 1,500 for incidentals (generator/dumping) and mileage, maybe 2,000, until you have one locked up and have looked over the contract VERY closely

an rv would be nice, but I enjoy the experience of camping and such, even when it's incredibly hot and nature sucks.
But I understand some people have certain needs and reasons why they need rvs, but I would rather drive and spend money on souveniers and favors at the roo
