Need to stay at a hotel Wed night in order to catch the shuttle on Thursday. Hoping to get somewhere close to a store where we can stock up on a couple coolers, beers, and all the essentials.
I've read something about VIP tickets and/or shuttle being handed out at a Howard Johnson, has this been confirmed yet?

There are a bunch of fine hotels in Murfreesboro, about 30 min from Manchester. We stayed at a Guestquarters suite or something and made the reservation the night before through Travelocity. Seemed to be no shortage of rooms. There are also a ton of stores off the exit for Murfreesboro - SuperWalmart, Target, etc. And the locals are so happy to see the 'Rooers -- we bring in lots of $$$ to the economy. Every store we went to was well stocked with all the supplies we needed (make sure you pick up a battery-powered water fan and goldbond if you're a dude).
We picked up VIP tickets at a hotel just outside the farm last year - may have been HoJo's but my brain is too old to remember. It was a snap. Show-up, get tickets and swag and get directions to the VIP entrance. No lines, no search, just right in.
That is exactly what I've done the past two years. I flew in early, so I could be on the first shuttle from the airport Thursday morning. If you take the shuttle, you check in and receive your wristbands right at the airport.
There are a bunch of hotels about a mile or so north of the airport. Many offer shuttle service to and from the airport. There is a Kmart, a liquor store, a beer/cigar store (with a very nice selection of canned beer), and a Walgreens within walking distance ot these hotels. The Super 8 was fine. The Red Roof Inn was a little dirty.

Hi crazycanuck! If you are going to be taking the shuttle, I agree with chefchick. There are quite a few hotels *near* the airport, but none within walking distance. There are at least two on Royal Parkway, so that can give you a starting point. If you mapquest Royal Parkway, you'll see the surrounding neighborhood. They aren't the greatest hotels in the world, but they'll do for a night.
Unfortunately, there isn't a ton around there in the way of supplies, but there's a little neighborhood nearby called Donelson, and it has a big grocery store called Kroger...if you take a taxi, they'll know how to get you there. If you have any other questions, let me know!
Oh, and whatever you do, I definitely advise against staying in any hotel located on Murfreesboro Pike. Ghetto. Bad. Yuck.

Sorry to change the train of thought but...Has anyone else had trouble getting hotel rooms for Wed. night? Granted I was looking for rooms in Manchester but it seems to me that they booked earlier than last year. Regardless looks like I'll be sleeping in my car in the Wal-Mart parking lot. Just wondering if something was different this year.

Remember that Manchester is a tiny, sleepy little town for 361 days a year. They don't have much in the way of hotels. Murfreesboro is the closest city, and has lots of hotels. Only one of them is kinda expensive (the doubletree).
