This is to bug512 or any one else that knows... I plan to bring my coleman pop-up . It has A/C and I plan to buy a genset for the a/c ...now in the general instructions on the bonarro web site it states that the max gen you can have is 1.5kV...now that won't power much at all. I plan to buy a genset thats at least 4000 watts... were there many noisy ones in the previous years?does the staff check on the gens? If I do buy on, can I make a box to place the gen in and cut down on the noise? Also...when I purchase my ticket and rv pass...how long will the site be held for? must I be there early?
The generator I ran and I think bug has the same one was a EU3000 Honda. They are about the quietest you can get. There were contractor type generators in VIP. They were not by us though, thank god. Those types are really loud and people may become annoyed with you. They were not checking generators and if you are over that requirement, it really doesn't matter. If you brought in a huge monster one they may say something. You don't have to worry about getting a spot. They only sell so many rv passes to make sure everyone with a pass gets one. About putting a box around a generator, that will make the generator over heat in a hurry. Hope that helps.
Generators, you will need a 3000 watt generator to run your air conditioner. I have seen some people run with a 2000 watt, but I would not recommend it. Your air conditioning will be running constantly with the heat and humidity. Are you looking to purchase one? If so what is your budget? Have you looked into renting? Many dealers who sell also rent and sell rented units. Honda EU and Yamaha EF series are very quiet. 3000 watts in either brand will run you around $1,800
Another option is is Honda's EG Series, a little less expensive but louder.
Another off brand is Kipor, I see a lot of them at NASCAR races but have no personal experience with them. This is their 3000 watt generator
Look for dB ratings Look to see at what load rating and distance they measure the dB at.
For example: A EU3000is runs at 49dB @ 1/4 load and 58dB at rated load. A generator that runs at 68dB compared to 58dB is twice as loud. dB is a logarithmic scale/measure
Building a "box"will not cut down on the noise. It will just make the generator overheat and fail. I will not go into lengthy details about source and receptor.
When you purchase your RV pass this will allow you to park with the RV's. There is no "site" like at a campground, just a patch of grass. I don't know if the general admission RV area has the "patch of grass" painted like in the VIP area. Sorry I can't help you there. What day are you thinking of arriving?
