Heat won't be a problem for me, if I can deal with the heat and humidity of the Philippines I'll be fine (I also can go from slightly darker than most people to a shadow). Dirt and grime doesn't worry me, nor does being prepared food wise (thanks to you guys).
But what about bugs? Specifically mosquitoes? I've read a few things on spiders and that doesn't bug me at all but mosquitoes are my kryptonite. I seem to attract them more than the average person, and I swell from their bites like crazy (think bee keeper who forgot to put on their protective suit).
So have any of you noticed a mosquito problem in recent years? I can deal with a few bites, but my only worry is that there are going to be a ton with all the people around. I just feel if I'm going to spend most of my week looking like a leper I should come prepared with repellent and the like.

I'm one of the people that attracts every bug no matter where I am. I am pretty sure they spray the campgrounds because the only thing I saw were spiders when we first set up our tent and then they ran away (or were killed ).
I never once had to use any kind of bug repellant.
I am a mosquito magnet. Not a good thing since I am for Louisiana originally. They are the state bird there ;D
I do not know what they put down before roo, they may napalm the place for all I know, but there were no bugs in sight. I brought industrial strength rain forest quality bug spray and never used it.
As an avid camper (Eagle Scout, etc.), I was expecting ticks, chiggers, mosquitos, and spiders ... and found NOTHING. A few ants, maybe ... a random spider here or there. That's about it.
I noticed some creepy crawly type bugs (spiders, grasshoppers) but I don't recall being bitten. We did use some bug spray around our campsite as a precaution because we all really hate bugs! But I don't think you need to worry - they do spray the fields I'm pretty sure, as others have said. Perhaps bring some bug spray just in case, and you'll be fine
I got lots of chigger bites the first year out in the we-arrived-on-Wednesday-night-BFE campground, but since then, I've only seen those little, ittybitty cute grasshoppers. And a couple of daddylonglegs.
I don't know which direction you're driving from(if you're driving at all), but don't set foot in arkansas.
As a child I always swore to never step outside the car when travelling through arkansas. The one time I did(because i forgot to fill up on gas before entering state lines), I was attacked by a swarm of mosquitoes.
We had some random small bugs in our tent and saw one big spider. (which really freaked me out) And there were a lot of beatles last year. But, mosquitos were not a problem at all.
Really, the only spiders you have to worry about in this area are black widows and brown recluses, neither of which will be anywhere near the farm. They might be in the woods past the farm, but they'll stay far away from the campsites and main festival grounds.

Okay, I can be a huge wuss when it comes to bugs...spiders and beetles and things at least. And I honestly don't remember seeing a single bug. Which means that either there weren't any or you'll be having so much fun that you won't even notice them!

Their bites not too bad, but they sure do smell...
two words......wolf spiders....they are probably my least favorite thing from roo last year, besides waking up every morning at about 7:30 am in a sweltering hot tent
I'm getting freaked out now. I've been the last two years and have never seen a spider. But I am horribly afraid of them, to the endless enjoyment of my friends and family. And now you are talking about black widows and brown recluses? I'm seriously going to shower in bug spray this year. But they wont keep me from the greatest weekend of the year.
Wolf spiders are night hunters. Just keep the tent zipped and you won't have a problem. We have them here in Minnesota too. They are really a pain in the a** in Canada, big mothers! Only other bugs I noticed were those green beetles. Brought a bunch home in the rv.
OK so everyone is saying there isn't a bug problem. I didn't see any bugs, didn't wear bug spray,a nd didn't get a single bite, but my friend got bit by a brown recluse. Ouch.
i wouldn't say there was a bug problem. in 05' we were lucky enough to get near a tree line, the only issue was the scariest spiders i have ever seen. from the first moment i stepped outside the car untill we were trying to pack up and there was a mama spider that didn't want to get off our tent. we couldn't hit her or her egg sac would have broken and then we would of had 1000 spiders that wouldn't get off. other than that you should be fine!
I guess I'm the opposite! Mosquitos don't really bother me as we have TONS of them here in Wisconsin. I guess you can say some people around here kinda get used to them. But this'll be my 3rd Roo and never been bitten once!
Spiders on the other hand I HATE!!! I must have killed a Wolf spider last year while setting up my tent. I felt something crawling on my arm and my first reaction was to 'shake' it off. As I did it landed on my tent and had 2 legs in the air ready to attack or something! I used one of my poles to get him off and I had to stomp him!!! It was big & hairy, YUCK!
Anyways that was the only thing in 2 years, so it's not bad...
You don't need to worry too much about spiders. Spiders freak me out too, but in the four years I've been to Roo I've only seen a few. None that were so large they really freaked me out though. If you're camped next to a treeline, however, you'll probably come across more than most people. My advice - stay out of them woods!
