which is better...spray sunblock or the lotion? last year we had both and with the dust, the lotion seemed to flake off...any suggestions or experiences?

spray.
neutragena (sp?) makes a better spray than the rest.

Yep the Neutogena cooling mist sunscreen ( I think I got SPF 45) was awesome. i went through a whole bottle on 3 of us last Roo. I just reapplied during the day if I felt that my skin was burning. Plus with it being so dusty it was nice to not have to rub it in - that could have got messy
Oh and like Becs said - don't spray in the wind - I did that once and pissed off some people who it landed all over

i applied some coppertone spf 4 around noon each day when we'd head to centeroo and was fine all day. the guy that i went with used the spray kind and i think it probably worked really well... he didn't seem to be burnt.

I had problems with the spray kind. :/ I don't know what it was- but it seemed to flake/peel off. It might have just been the kind I was using, which was Coppertone. It made me feel incredibly dirty.. so I don't reccomend that brand if you get it.
spray is WAY better! when the dirt gets caked on your arms and legs... u don't want to rub a sticky lotion all over those parts... it's not cool... the spray was way better...

We never had that problem with the Neutrogena spray - you should check it out.

Karma for you. I'm definitely going to check it out! Because I agree with everyone that lotion is gross when your caked in dirt, but I'm telling you, the brand we had- was just as bad. It looked like our skin was peeling off all weekend.

thats pretty much what im looking to try and avoid...i don't think the lotion worked last year...it seemed to peel off as soon as it dried...i was pretty burnt when i got home...so spray it is!!!

This stuff was awsome but they are correct, try not to share with the neighbors when you spray yourself ;D

i used this system every fest i hit in '07 and never got burnt. got coppertone sport 50spf spray & lotion, both waterproof. if you're following advice on other threads here, you have baby wipes so as to clean yourself, especially legs/feet. anyway, in the morning before you head out use lotion everywhere...you should be only very minimally dusted/dirty after a good once or twice over with the baby wipes either night before or in the AM.
then when you need to reapply on legs & feet (however often you choose) use the spray. for arms/neck/face, i'm usually less dirty so i keep using the lotion.
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!

One thing for certain is the spray gets used up quicker, the lotion lasts longer at least with what I was using, but I will probably try the nuetrogena sparay this year.
I used the spray and was not burnt at all - but ladies - if you are wearing a tank top and you burn - don't forget to get the areas under your arm that you would never thing about - the first year - I forgot and that was the only part of me that burned - not fun
If you actually have shower access and use it (I know, I know; but I was in VIP, so it was right there), I just substituted suntan lotion for my usual after shower body lotion. It's always best to put on sun protection when you're still cool and in the shade. It's also easier to put the lotion everywhere when you're still naked out of the shower. No worries about missing a space, later, to tank top straps or anything like that. Then, once I was out in the dust for the day, reapply with spray Neutrogena to cool off and keep the protection going. Sort of xiphoid's method, but with shower access.
