Hello, all! I was lookin for some advice about canopies. I'm trying to make my canopy as comfortable as it can be to escape from the midday heat. In your experience, do the screens or sidewall help at all with the heat? part of me thinks that they would create a heat trap like the tents and the other part of me thinks that it would create extra shade. any thoughts?
We have a large 6-sided canopy until that has screen walls all the way around with T-doors on two sides. Even with both T-doors fully open it blocked most of any breeze. It did provide great sun cover but was not really much cooler. I was wishing we had something more airy, but I would not want to sacrifice sun cover, as that was really the biggest thing we needed from the canopy.
If I was shopping for a new one, I would look for one with the sidewalls but that had either a more open mesh or larger / more open doors to provide better airflow.
But I've heard voices not in the head Out in the air they called ahead Through ripped out speakers Through thick and thin They found a shelter Under my skin -Evgeny Aleksandrovitch Nikolaev
A regular canopy is great. Just bring a tarp or two to extend the shade and/or shade the east side as the sun comes up in the morning and west side as it sets at night.
If you're looking for a small (10x10) canopy and don't mind spending a bit, Sam's Club has an EZup with sidewalls that roll up for about $150. I plan on having whatever side the sun is on rolled down just enough to block it and hopefully still have some airflow.
