First, let me just say that there's nothing I hate more than the Bonnaroo wake-up. Waking up in a sauna still under a sleeping bag with clothes plastered to my body is the worst thing imaginable. Does anyone just sleep outside? I mean, sure it's cold at night, but I don't mind that at all and in the morning its much hotter in the tent than outside. If I were to sleep under a canopy, it seems like this would solve all of my qualms with Bonnaroo mornings. Anyone have any thoughts about this? Why is it that people still sleep in saunas on the hottest weekend of the summer?

My daughter decided she didn't want to do the tent when we camped in 06. She slept in the back seat of my SUV with all the windows wide open and in the morning when it got hot, she opened all the doors and the back so she had a breeze in there. She was pretty comortable the whole weekend
I personally would not sleep out there because I would be scared of spiders crawling on me....... ARGG

This will be my 6th Roo and I've never slept in a tent. The first 2 years I slept outside on an Army cot and since then in a hammock. The canopy keeps me dry in case of rain and the "sauna effect" is avoided. The only time I got cold was in '04 after the monsoon. Everything was wet and chilly.
Last year I did bring my truck with a camper shell and slept in it Sat night because of the dust. I may start doing that sometimes also.
\/\/\/Edit: I did have to move my cot in '03 in the middle of the night when rain started blowing in. Just moved it over and went back to sleep.\/\/\/

Yeah, I've definitely seen people sleeping on lounge chairs and cots under their canopies, and that's definitely cooler than sleeping in a tent, but if a storm comes up, you're gonna want a tent. A staked-down tent, to be more precise.
EDIT: ^^^But it can definitely be done. Hey, it is just rain, after all.

You can just google "cot" or "hammock," or go to Walmart.com. Some people don't trust Wal-Mart, so you could also just check out your local sporting goods or camping store. Also, you could get creative. A pool float and a couple of blankets can make a sufficient bed if you're on a tight budget.
Cot would be cheaper and easier and most are rated for at least 250 lbs. (even the cheaper ones) Look for sales at camping stores and online once the season starts I got a Coleman type cot last year for $15 at Big Lots or somewhere.
Now you just told me that friendship is all I'm forced to repair the breech in my wall Illusions and dreams, as usual, it seems Sabra girl, they've been my downfall
There are a couple of Army cots on ebay for about $20 (plus $20 s/h) on ebay right now. That's a very good price. I have an Army cot that I got used and have had for over 20 years and it shows little or no sign of wear. And they will hold over 500 lbs. Just search Army cot (and get the aluminum ones)

Hammocks vary widely based on type. the good ones are between $150-$200 and are very heavy to try and carry. Mine stays set up by my truck. The lighter ones and folding ones are cheaper and IMHO not as comfortable but much easier to lug around. Some people are light enough to drive posts and tie a $20 hammock between them but not me. I always bring about a dozen extra posts and a post driver to lend to neighbors. You're welcome to borrow some and try if we can locate each other (not as easy as it sounds at Roo)
I lucked out and got my nice one for free off Freecycle.org (also got my truck camper for free there) Check out your local site and maybe you can get some free stuff too.
Check ebay for "hammock stand" and you'll get all types.

Just got a wicked cot for free!! Fold up real small in a bag with a shoulder strap. I will MOS DEF be sleeping on that under my little shade tent. or inside a real tent if it gets too cold. HOORAY FOR COTS!

Last year me and a buddy brought a tent to sleep in, unfortunately, he forgot the poles to hold it up. So we just sleep in my car. It got chilly enough that I was comfortable with a blanket at night, however, the second the sun came up it was gone and I was out of that car. It got hot very quickly.
I haven't slept in a tent at roo since my first one back in '03. The next few years i just slept on the ground under my ez-up, but last year i sprang for one of those army cots and it was really nice. The only problem was the dew late at night would make my sleeping bag wet as hell, so started putting it in a trashbag until i needed it, normally not until 4 or so, and after that it wasn't bad at all.
