Went shirtless all weekend in the day time unless my shoulders were getting crispy. The main stage is a beast on the back & shoulders for sun, but Ziggy/Ben Harper/The Roots were all worth getting a little burnt for. Just remember to bring a bandana incase it is dust-a-roo again this year. Also drink plenty of water to help with dehydration, that is almost worse than getting a little burnt.

i walk around shirtless for a couple hours in the mornings, then put my shirt back on (usually after soaking it in the cooler) before the trip into centeroo.
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
haha yea didint blister up like that one dude's friend (ooo just thinking about it makes me cringe) but i did carry around a camelback most of the time and my shoulders were so raw
but yea i didnt think about it because i hardlly ever get sunburned... i can go to the beachhouse in florida for days without sunscreen and nothin will happen...
yeah but who wants to spend all that time putting on sun screen.?
I dont really think it takes that much time to put it on and the spray sunscreen they have now is really refreshing!
i dont know why you wouldnt put it on. you're talking about your health and happiness.
my boyfriend REFUSES to put on sunscreen and he got really badly burned. I managed to get him to put it on his face, on his ears, and chapstick on his lips but the rest of him was burn to a crisp.
and after that he will be wearing it and reapplying it this year.
well ill keep that in mind and bring some sun screen then lol

i'm actually pretty pale with white irish skin, do you think it's alright for me to go shirtless if i put a strong amount of sun screen on? and do you guys just put it on once or is it really that bad where you have to put it on like every 4 hours?

My daughter's friend is really pale and we just made sure to keep 45 sunscreen on her and re-apply every few hours.
Yes it is that bad you will need to re-apply at least every 4 hours because you will be sweating like crazy.
I am olive skinned and don't burn easily and I made the mistake of not re-applying and my shoulders were very crispy.
Buy the spray Nuetrogena Cooling mist - it's nice and easy to use.

Guys, going topless is probably the worse way to stay cool. The best way to stay cool and not burnt is to wear something like one of those ponchos or something. You will stay a lot cooler keeping the sun off your skin, i just wore my towel over my shoulders most of the time, after i built up a base tan thursday.

girls should try the bathing suit route as much as possible, imo. I did this last year (although i already had a decent base tan when i went). i didnt bring enough bottoms.... but i had fun panties, so that worked out well
But I used to be a lifeguard, and a tanaholic. Like every single day at the tanning bed during the winter, and then every day at the pool or beach in the summer. I looked great, I never burned, didn't need to wear makeup yadda yadda...
Now I am 33 and have all kinds of weird stuff on my skin. Age spots at my young age, weird moles that need to be checked out, already lack of elasticity, patchy color on my face and collarbone and gosh knows what horrible things I am prone to getting in the future.
Get the aerosol sunscreen, a couple bottles since you can go through them very fast and keep applying. The aerosol stuff is great because you don't have to rub it in, you can do it while sitting and chilling at a performance and it feels soothing on hot sunny skin.
My old boss died from melanoma. Good dude who loved the beach, loved time on his boat and outdoor activities. Showed up on his back where he could neither see nor feel it. He died before he saw his daughters marry and the youngest graduate from college. He was in good health otherwise.
Go buck nekkid or dressed from head to toe... just make sure any skin exposed has sunscreen on it. Love, Mom ;D

And if you're worried about not tanning, I reapplied SPF 30 every 2-3 hours and still managed to come home with a tan.
. Same here, I was always under the impression that I don't tan, just burn. But after last year, I came away with brown skin almost. My hair also got a good bit lighter (blonde). I put on a healthy dose every morning before going out, then reapplied every 3-4 hours or as I felt necessary.

people seem to have the impression that sunscreen doesnt allow you to tan, which really isnt true. it just prevents a lot of the dangerous effects from the sun. Yes it takes a bit longer to get color but the color you get wont be red and bothersome
and make sure you have a buddy to help you apply sunscreen! The worst burns are those little patches you miss.
And get the edges of your clothes. If your pants scootch down 1/2" when you sit, that strip will burn like heck if you're hanging out, waiting for a show.
I think there are two big reasons not to go shirtless or naked (for men and women). The first big reason not to for women is because the internet. I guarantee if you are topples or naked at Bonnaroo you will be on the internet by the Wednesday following the festival. Can you imagine seeing your co-workers after they have seen you without any clothes on? I don't care if you are hot or not. I wonder how many more people would try to go topless if it weren't for the net ?
Second is exposing skin that never sees the light of day..I would be so worried about burning in areas that would be oh so very very painfully. Ouch !

amen to that mikearoo hahaha, but i honestly agree with everyone else sunscreen is ridiculously important! i'm a nurse and i see skin cancer all the time, scary stuff!
agree w/ the "moms"!!!!!! i used to be obsessed with tanning beds and the like but now i'm just worried about health. better to be pale and glowing with health than tan and all splotchy!

Maybe those who are opposed to sunscreen and are also single should carry around a bottle and offer to apply it/ask to have it applied when they see someone attractive. That makes it more palatable now doesn't it?
Seriously, though, I'm going to have to chime in on the mom side. People who choose not to wear sun screen in that environment are making a STUPID decision. You're not tough, you're not cool. You're making bad choices. Even for someone who never burns - you are out in the sun all day with very little shade - you will not regret the $15 and 30 minutes it takes to protect yourself for the weekend.

Just follow the directions on the bottle. Such as putting on the sun screen about 30 min before you go into the sun, last year I would put some on right after I woke up and right before we left so I had two layers on when we left at 2 or so when the sun is strongest. This year i will probably be going shirtless with a camelbak.
I've also heard that those under armour things breathe really well so you could probably put one of those on without noticing it.

Yeah, sunscreen can be a lifesaver, and to quote Ben Franklin, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". Sure, it can be a pain in the ass to put it on, especially if you don't have a good friend/significant other/sexy neighbor to put it on those hard-to-reach spots on your back. However, I'd much rather that than to get burnt to a crisp on day one, and spend the rest of the weekend not fully enjoying myself. Maybe it's just been drilled into my head so much to apply lots of sunscreen, since I grew up in Australia and in elementary school, we were constantly warned about the hole in the ozone layer and the dangers of melanoma.
