i am planning on building a shade tent to fit about 5 tents and sitting area and i want it all to be shaded. i would like to know from the bonnaroo vets what the best way to make a tent to shade everything.
The best way is to buy a pre-made shelter. You know it's stable and will go togther well. If you can't afford such a shelter Use a good sturdy canopy for a base and tie tarps to it.
I usually bring an EZ-up or two and then dive metal fence poles off to the side and tie a tarp from the canopy to the poles.

Made it using MS Paint. That's the only picture/drawing program I own.
Caution: the ground at Roo can be very hard so bring a good post driver or the like.
i just had the opposite problem. The ground here in Fl is so soft and wet that no stakes are staying in the ground. Off I go to find a different canopy. We got it built but its falling all over the place

I was planning on doing this but slightly different and being my first Roo im not sure if i can...Wanted to tie tarp to my canopy like you said but then on the other end use some bungee cords to attach it to my car. So if you can picture it, my campsite would have my car, then my tarp, and then my canopy with my tent under the tarp.
My question is....is this possible? The most important part is my car, since i will be substituting it for the fence poles you mentioned. Hopefully this will work or else i will have nothing else to attach my tarp to!

that's what we did last year - two cars, 2 ez ups - tarps and tents on the outer edges - plenty of shade, kept the cars semi-cool also
Dug palm trees for a living for a year in FL. The soil is definitely softer than TN.
I've lived in both states, and this is true...Tennessee has much more rocky soil.
Now...do you think the people at the gate would be ok with someone who had a pickaxe? That's the best way to loosen up soil by far, and I doubt we'll need one, but I was just curious if they'd try to take it from me.
