What do you guys think about these car roof bags like this one: www.amazon.com/Lund-601016-Soft-Pack-Roof/dp/B0002Z9QO4/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1204738532&sr=8-2 My friend that I'm doing a couple fests with and I both have really small cars so I was thinking about investing in one of these. I would need on that doesn't require a car rack (a rack would not go with my little sports car). But I really don't know anything about these or if they are worth the investment. Any advice? Opinions? Or any other ideas on how to get all your gear to TN with an itty-bitty car?
Pack sparingly. Seriously, I've yet to run across anything that doesn't require a roof rack. I know there's a place here that rents Thulies and racks, but other than that, I'm not sure.
Ours worked really well in 06. We put it on top of a 4 door civivc, but it KILLED our gas mileage. The car had a hard time climbing hills on the highway. We didn't pack the soft rack very well and it created a big wind resistance on the road. We could have made it more aerodynamic. Oh well we learned...
On the way home we fit everything in the car and didnt use the soft rack. When packing the car you have to take your time and use every piece of space wisely. Hope this helps.

i was considering getting one, but with the way everyone's been talking about cops, i figure it'll just aid in calling unwanted attention. but its not as big as a problem of packing for me, we're going to have three cars going [though they're not that big)

I honestly cannot imagine how we would have been able to pack all our stuff without one.
Granted we had 15 people in a 6 car caravan. Which included a pickup with with all the beer, water, folding tables and chairs, and a ton of other stuff.
I don't understand the whole "pack sparingly" notion.
If your car is packed to the brim with crap - they are not going to look through it all - if at all.
If your stuff looks like it going to spill out the second you open the trunk than they usually leave it alone...

after looking at these things, i might just invest in one. i have an SUV and everything, but it would be helpful, as i know i'm definitely not a light packer.
as for cops...if you don't give them a reason to pull you over, it won't matter what's in your car because they won't pull you over.

yeah, we're not gunna have anything illegal in the car, definitely not. i just figured it'd be similar to having "Bonnaroo or Bust" written on the car. I'm going to have to use cruise control, a lot. I have a lead foot.
we had a hard top roof thing that straps to the top of your car. It was a lifesaver. My boyfriend was planning on just wrappying our duffle lbags and sleeping bags in a blue tarp and driving down like that, but I made him stop at my parents house to get the car top cause it was POURING rain. It rained for at least the first 500 miles of our trip and our stuff would have been soaked otherwise.
with food, water, sleeping bags, duffle bags, tent, coolers, etc for 4 people, we didnt have enough trunk room.
Have any of you guys used one without a car rack. I've heard that alot of them you can rig up without the rack, or you can get these clip things for your car. I just don't want to get one and not be able to use it. I haven't even decided if I'm doing this yet...
Good heads up. I figure (if I get one) I'll just put our clothes and stuff in the bag, and have all our heavy stuff (ie cooler/tent/shade tent) in the car. Now I'm thinking I should definately to a packing test run to see exactly how much I can fit in the car before buying anything.

my dad bought me one with the roof rack bars when i moved across the country and then to my surprise when i made it to my destination he took it off and put it back in the box and took it back to the store...i felt kinda bad b/c thats not something i would have done but it gave my car such bad wind resistance and didnt keep my things dry when it rained that i never would have used it again...

This word also has a underground meaning once you break it down. Let’s take “Bonn” for example and it actually turns into the word “Bone”. We all know gays use this word to describe the action of when they are fecal fisting their Cuban cabana boy at their sex bath house parties. Now let’s look at Roo, “Roo” is short for “Kangaroo”.So put the full true message together and you get“Bone a Kangaroo

Yes.... it will kill the gas mileage, even when trying to make it as aerodynamic as possible. I have never used one for 'roo, but going to the beach I have and it was a waste of time.

I have an Eagle Talon. Technically there is a back seat, but I can't really fit a third person back there. Ok I can in an emergency, but they better be short and we better not be going far. It is a hatch back though, so I'm thinking if I take the "trunk" cover thingy out and fold down the back seat, there will be more room than I think.

i'm having this same dilemna. I have a 4 door Honda Accord, and so far there might be 4 people in my vehicle. I thought we we were going to take my dad's chrysler town and country, but he sold it!
i was wondering if anyone knew how practicle it would be to just put bags on top of my vehicle and bungee cord everything down. I really don't know how well that would work out.

mine doesnt use car racks. You can just strap it on to any car in less than 5 minutes
I'm driving a mazda 626 with myself and three passengers. These guys pack like women(no offense) They would come up to my school with a duffel bag each for a night sleep over. I told them all for Bonnaroo they are allowed 1 sleeping bag and 1 school size backpack for clothes. So, I plan on 4 sleeping bags, 4 backpacks, a tent, 3 tarps, several lengths of pipe and flagmakings. maybe a cooler, lots of beef jerky and granola.
