I guess this is pretty self explanatory, I am going in a tent unless some kind of miracle happens, but I Am curious about the division of what people on here will be doing.
We're considering buying a cheap old RV this year because we it's pretty much $1000 plus to rent one. We've found a few old RV's that are late 70's or newer that are $1500-$3000. We're just nervous about buying something that old. If anyone has any input about older RV's that would be greatly appreciated.
Camping in a tent in the Tennessee heat really sucks!
I camped last year and it was rough, but it was camping and that is always a lot of fun. I would be camping this year, but my dad bought a pop up last fall, so I'm going to give that a try. I think having A/C will be awesome. Although I would not have shelled out the money to rent something if the pop up wasn't at my disposal.
I know it has been said many times, but it's those morning hours that are so unbearable. And I noticed this last year. Since Manchester is right on the eastern edge of the central time zone, the sun rises earlier on the clock than it does in other parts, or at least here in Jville.
I'm tenting it again. With a shade canopy over my tent, a tarp hanging on the east side to block the sunrise, and a couple of fans, I managed to sleep late enough. Of course, the earplugs and Ambien didn't hurt either.
We used a tent last year. I think that's the way to go. Like people have said, once your tent reaches 200+ degrees (sometime around 8a.m.) just move out to your shade tent.
we did tent last year and the sun just beat us up too bad, we had shade tents, tarps, shade tents, and more tarps, fans...and we were just beat up by saturday from the lack of sleep. Got a Camper RV this year and we will be a little more rested. I may still take my tent, JUST IN CASE!!!
As my Inebriated buddy walks out of the Porto, he yells out, "Dude...I love this place...bonnaroo thinks about everything...they even put beer holders next to the toilet!"
Had to break it to him that that was the urnal. Good times good times!
We use 4 pop up canopy's and throw a 50ft tarp on top of that. Plenty of shade and you can sleep for hours. As great as an RV sounds, 1000 extra bucks for AC isnt worth it to us.
Buyin an ole RV can be BIG head-aches! Soo much to maintain! Not only the running gear but the camper systems ie elec, water & gas for cooking. We had an old one that was always fixin, water lines froze & leaked, AC didn't work when we needed then the heat wouldn't stay lit, soo unless yer handy just rent one then return it, save money in long run! Not to mention taxes, tags & insurance

That's why you get a big one and a group of people together and everyone chips in to make it not as expensive and still be able to relax in the ac, take showers and avoid the porta pottys as much as possible.

I've been planning on a tent, but my son is coming with me and as a result, I've got to figure out 120 v power. He has a biPAP machine that does not run on 12 volt power, so I have to figure out how to get him either 24 volt, or 120 volt power at night. I guess I could run a powerful 12 volt, jump it to 120 with an inverter, and run his machine.
I may try to get the RV pass so that I can hang out near the RV's with AC power. I thought I had figured out power - 12 volt, but his damn high tech machine.
rv is nice and all, but unless you have an A class, its just okay. (and i didnt have an a class...believe me).
it costs WAAAAAAY too much money. we're talking 8 mpg (if your lucky) on top of steep rental fees. its not worth it. tents, shade tents, and some tarps will do essentially the same thing.

Hmm... i got between 10-12mpg on our RV last year, but it was a newer (2005) model. The rental fees weren't too bad-- but people should really take a long hard look at the towns they are traveling from or through.
We end up picking up our RV earlier than we would like (i.e. have to drive it longer/farther) but we get a cheaper rate from the less urban location (not in a major city where rental fees are higher and availability low). It's nearly a wash. I would also suggest people check private RV rental people.
The excitement of not knowing where the quack you're gonna end up. plus the situation of having to take care of your shelter and such makes it more fun for me, thinking of all the ways to get creative for shade w/ just bungees and tarps, and tapestries. tis the way i like to do it!
True tent torture makes the Roo experience even that much better. I just don't think I would love it as much without just a little bit of misery... Heck I am kind of selling out on that with VIP - so I have to go tent!

The sound from the AC drowns out the outside noise. Plus the fact that it turns the camper into a big meat locker, Mmmm chilly!!! At the end of a busy day, I need the comfort of an RV. I save the tent camping for my trips into the Minnesota wilderness.
This will be my 3rd Bonnaroo, but my first one camping, so i'm looking forward to the many surprises that will come my way! Thought about the RV, but too much trouble and $$$. Maybe next year!
Ok my brother is about to rent a RV and we are VIP already. We are checking to see if RV passes are still available. Also I am sure some one can point me to the correct thread but this is the first day I have thought having a RV so I have a few questions. Is there a RV hook up or do you have to run the generator all the time and how does that work... never been on a RV so I am kinda loss, the closest I have come to a RV is watching National lampoon's Christmas vacation
