I just bought my first Galactic album, I was super impressed!!!! Can someone give me some background on this band? They are playing a free show in downtown Knoxville on the 21st, needless to say, can't wait for that!!!!! Thanks.

Galactic has some heavy, dirty funk and their drummer, Stanton Moore, is probably one of the best drummers around. The singer "houseman" comes on occasionally to sing, but at the other times they just rock out. They have an awesome way of getting very spacey but staying really funky and grooving at the same time.
Stanton Moore is definitely a really sick drummer. I'd say check out his album "All cooked out" as well. Some really chilled out Jazz rythms, and track seven rocks. Just some smooth flowing stuff man.
Last year Galactic put on a great set at the 'Roo too, I don't know about you guys but I wish they had turned it up a little more for them though. I thought the sounds was just a little weak for that big a$$ stage they were on? Can't wait to see them again though.
Thanks for all your input, Vintage Reserve is the album I bought also, but will certainly check out All Cooked Out as well. Can't wait to see them this thursday and at the Roo!
The first year...Galactic did a Saturday Overnite set that started about 12:30a and lasted until almost 5am. They should have had an actual revolving door on stage because the guest appearances were nonstop...Les Claypool and Skerik for Spinal Tap's "Big Bottoms" and Zappa's "Willie the Pimp"...members of SCI for some Zepplin, Robert Randolph (who pointed out what time it was at 4:20am ;D plus many more. Then the keyboard player went and set up with Particle, who did an impromptu set at the cinema tent that lasted until 8:30am. Then Galactic opened up the main stage at 12:30p on Sunday!!! Galactic was definately one of the highpoints of the first Bonnaroo, unfortunately none of last years overnights came even close to the first year's.

Galactic played last night here in Knoxville, they were awesome! The only thing wierd was they ahd a female lead singer? What happened to the dude? Anyone have any insight into this one?
Houseman is down with an illness, or so they said at the show in Cincy on Wednesday. They have a woman singing with them, heard her name was Latrice. She's not bad, but Galactic is so good that it really doesn't matter who, or rather if anyone is singing with them.
