I am travelling down with my children (and a babysitter!) and would like to bring them to see some of the music. They are pretty young (4 and 7.) Has anyone else done this? Any advice, cautions, etc??
p.s. We are not camping, but staying in a hotel down the road....

I know I sound like a crabby old spoil sport, but my very best advice is to leave the little ones home until they're really old enough to go and enjoy themselves.
It's apt to be hot and buggy with intense sun. They're very likely to see stuff you might not want to have to explain at that age. They're probably going to hear stuff you'd rather they didn't repeat for the next two weeks. Plus, the volume of the music can be really tough on their young ears--it can even cause lasting damage.
I'm not trying to be a heavy and I certainly applaud your desire to involve your kids in something so important in your life, but you have to consider if they'll really enjoy it as much as you hope and whether or not it's in their best interest.
To be honest I dont always agree with the kid thing either. I know essentially you are spending more time with them and being a better parent having them with you instead of say a babysitter but Shakedown Streets here can get ugly its a fact. I was actually playing catch with a football last year near the playground with a kid.

Well said. I love seeing happy little kids running around at festivals, but I don't necessarily think it's in their best interest. Lots of adult-type fun that kids probably shouldn't be exposed to. Especially at night-- that's when all the hard-core partying goes down, and sometimes the scene is a little freaky for me, so imagine what it would be like for a little kid!
We pondered the idea of renting an RV and taking our 6mo. and 2yr. olds with, but WE NEED time to be ourselves, you know, irresponsible to some extent. I remember those days As for those who are bringing the little ones with, they will have a blast and you will too. I've seen tons of kids up there during the daytime, but at night......well......not a good thing to have them witness every aspect of Roo. We've found the best way to do a fest with the kids is to have another couple with kids come with you and swap babysitting duties at night. 1 stay for a couple hours and sleep with the kids while 3 play. Then swap. I agree that some events may not be suitable for kids, but come on.....They have one of the biggest playgrounds I've ever seen, 50 or so swings and a huge arcade to boot...... Pretty kid friendly on the SuperFly Crews' part IMO.
Every kid I seen last year was not having a good time. I felt really bad for them and wouldnt wish that on any kid. I have a 3 year old and I wouldnt even consider taking him.
I'm sure they would have fun at first but they will want to go home after a few hours.
Just my opinion tho.
ooops didnt see that you had a hotel. With a hotel and a babysitter I think you could take your kids and they would have a lot of fun : )
I guess I have it pretty well worked out. I may bring them for a show or two during the day, then leave them with the babysitter for the rest. That way they can see it (at it's tamest) and I can experience as much music as I can.
I say if the children are adventures (as some are) why not bring them.... there are lots of families who come and some of the best moments are with children! You have a hotel and a babysitter it doesn't get better than that! You're obviously getting prepared. If you are hesitant than make a trip in first without the children to see what your options are. Short excursions or no excursions you and the children will still have a great time! Just a tip, bring in some suprises into the park for the children to play with i.e. bubbles, disposable cameras, face painting, glow stick etc. If they start to get bored the park would be a great break.
