Facts are simple for me, John Mellencamp finishes the first leg of his summer tour in mid April and will soon announce the second leg of it. I think Bonnaroo has at least two more big names to announce and John could put on a hell of a show in Manchester. What does everyone else think?
Growing up in Ohio (5 minutes from Indiana) I kinda rooted for the guy, he has some catchy tunes......but as far as Roo is concerned there would most certainly be somebody else playing I would rather see.
John "Cougar" Mellencamp was big when I was in college; thought he sucked then...his politics and unrequested opinion give me another reason to hate him now.
One GOOD thing is that if he came, I'd be able to cross him quickly off my list to go see someone else!
Wow, I was just throwing it out there to judge reaction of other people who like the whole Bonnaroo scene of music and i guess that not all of our tastes are the same. Hopefully you dont hold my first post on the board against me.

Not to worry Bones there’s some really nice folks on this board. All with varying taste in music, hell I’ve even got some Bosa Nova crap in my music collection. WHAT ? Yep I said Bosa Nova, I’ll throw some of that on and give a listen or possibly some Igor Stravinsky or Modest Mussorgsky once every couple of years just to keep out of a musical rut, besides I like it. Some people say my music collection is diverse and some say it stinks, and honestly I’ve heard more people say stink than diverse. So I say go with what you like, who are you trying to satisfy anyway? I must note here that I did invest in headphones. Anyway keep posting. Glad to have you on the Inforoo board.

Back in the old days I saw John Cougar ( at the time) open for the Kinks. The crowd was not at all into him; very loud opposition in fact. Cougar at one point mooned the crowd.

Mellencamp is alright by me, a songwriter who can actually tell a story is always a good time. On that note Springsteen has a new album coming out this summer, mostly acoustic, no East Street Band [you can't see Springsteen and not have Clarence on stage blowing that horn] and is announcing his tour soon. That would be one hell of a show, complacent on the East Street Band being there.

I like Mellencamp, and I was thinking earlier this month that it's been a while since I saw one of his shows ... Farm Aid several years ago, I think. He's a great entertainer, and his shows are consistently solid. Sometimes, singing about pink houses and little ditties and small towns are just what warm summer nights are all about. I'll second your notion, bones.
Thanks Bella I'm glad that im not the only one that would appreciate mellencamp in a nice afternoon set. It has been forever since he went on tour and I saw him last at Farm Aid as well. I believe it was Pittsburgh in ?2002? Hell of a show. Was that the one you were at?
Nope, I was at the one in Indianapolis at Deer Creek (now Verizon, but it's still DC to me). Being a hoosier, I've seen him perform numerous times ... I've had years when I liked him more and liked him less. But in the last five years or so, I've come to appreciate the integrity he seems to have maintained throughout his career, and that on top of his songs makes him quite appealing.
Although I'm a city gal who has toyed with NYC or SF as future homes, I think driving down country roads with lush corn on one side and green soybean fields on the other is one of the best ways to enjoy John Mellencamp. A farm in TN would be a nice afternoon treat ... perhaps the first set on Sunday!

To touch back on this whole John Mellencamp thing, for his summer tour this year i beleive Donovan is opening for him and he is definatly someone i would love to see this summer.
ziggy thanks for your support in my John Mellencamp campaign. I guess the general opinion is rather mixed on the topic. I hadn't heard anything about Donovan opening for him but that would be amazing. Donovan was one of my favorite small time shows from last years Bonnaroo. John Fogarty is definatly opening for Mellencamp this summer though.
