I hope that it is as clear to the folks at Superfly as it is to me that future Bonnaroos will not be complete without a Late Night Hip Hop tent.
I was front and center for the Perceptionists and the energy in that tent was unbelievable. Mr. Lif and Akrobatik were two of several artists I saw over the weekend who were genuinely humbled and awed by the response they were getting from the crowd (after the set was over Ak didn't seem to want to leave the stage and kept posing the crowd for pictures of himself with it).
Live hip-hop shows are all about the crowd enthusiasm and the crowds at Bonnaroo have to be the most game, enthusiastic crowd any musician could hope for. I've enjoyed the second stage hip-hop shows in past years (J5 really brought it this year), but have always known that the late night tent is the perfect venue for a hip hop show. I was so happy to see The Perceptionists and De La Soul scheduled where they were and was not let down.
I watched De La Soul from a distance for a while after Trey, and it seemed like they had a similar energy going for their set. All of those hands moving in unison in one of those tents is a beautiful sight to see.
