Typically the headliners of the festival close out the night before the late night shows start. Last year it was Dave and WSP. Do the shedulers at Roo actually plan on giving Petty his own headlining show while no other band is playing. I have plenty of respect for Petty and have seen him before, but honestly there is plenty of new and more talented bands to give this spot to. Petty is old, his shows are not that enjoyable anymore. Radiohead will obviously get at least one of the nights headlining spots and it looks like probably 2 of the nights. Who will get the third? If it is Petty, who is down for having a big get together elsewhere (party, jam session, etc) to prepare for the sicknasty late night shows.
Give me a break dude, if they can give a headline spot to DAVE MATTHEWS BAND, they sure as hell can give a spot to Tom Petty, who has been a far more influential musician and has rocked harder than Dave Matthews ever could dream.
and it is Radiohead Friday, Petty Saturday, and Phil closing the fest on sunday.

Petty's shows aren't that enjoyable anymore? Did you see him on tour last summer?!? I did an he and the Heartbreakers rocked. Radiohead does not need two nites, especially not with this much talent in the line-up. I projecy Tom nite one, Radiohead nite two, and Phil closes the house down. Although I think Beck deserves some sportlight, i'll take seeing him sunday afternoon or saturday nite.
You know that old saying, "it's never as good as the first time"? Well, I have seen Tom Petty live several times and each time is even better than the time before. Sure he's getting older, but in my opinion he hasn't slowed down a bit. I saw him two nights in a row this summer. Both nights were different and the second night rocked just as much as the first. Tom Petty is a great musician and even more so, he knows how to put on a good show. Also, his lead guitarist, Mike Campbell does his best stuff during live performances.
Totally agreeing on the past few posts about Petty. His live shows are fantastic (and since when does being old equate to being unable to entertain?). I don't forsee a double-Radiohead headline, and there's no way they'll give even one to Beck (not to say he isn't excellent). And Phil's website is pretty open about proclaiming that the last night headline spot is his.
I'm pretty sure it's official...Radiohead, Petty, Lesh...in that order.
Yup.
I wonder what the reception to Radiohead will be like
For those who have never seen them before...it will be a healthy mixture of disbelief and joy. For those who skip out and only hear about it the next day...something along the lines of jealousy and confusion.
tom petty cant really do a bonnaroo headlining show, because traditionally those shows are 3 hours long or longer and tom petty has to play 30 or so of his 4-5 min songs to fill 2 hours, I dont think we have a third headliner yet, actually i dont think phil lesh will play a headlining show, maybe one right after at one of the smaller stages, I dont think the roo is drawing the right crowd for phil to play a headliner... I hope beck will headline, but that is wishful thinknig

I am not saying that Petty puts on a bad show, ive seen him play a few times. I am of the opinion that there are more deserving artists to take this spot. And IT IS POSSIBLE that Radiohead will headline 2 nights. Widespread took 2 of the headlining shows last Bonaroo while Dave only took one. Not only this but they are coming back to the U.S. after being practically unheard of for 2 years. I strongly believe they will get 2 nights just as Widespread did last year. I am hoping that Lesh and Friends gets the other night instead of Petty.

I believe Radiohead will get 2 nights. And speaking of influential, lets talk Phil Lesh. Petty ain't got sh*t on Lesh's influence with the Grateful dead and his unmatched Bass picking innovative skill.
There's no way Radiohead gets two nite at bonnaroo, there is way to much talent on the line-up. WSP was an exception because they've been so good to bonnaroo. Petty can play three hours, trust me his "3-4 minute songs" turn into 6-10 minute songs live, and they all rock.
