Hey guys and gals, my first post here on this wonderful board and my first 'roo experience. Used to live in Murfreesboro and saw all the traffic in mid-June, and now my roommate and I are making the trek down from Dayton, OH.
To my question: What is superjam? I mean, I get the idea of a super collaboration, but what exactly are the logistics.
Each year on Sunday around 6 or 7 pm there is a jam session on one of the tent stages with some of the 'roo artists and maybe a couple guests. In 03 Dr John showed up, 04 was Maceo Parker, and 05 was Herbie Hanc0ck and ?uestlove with of course a bunch of other artists joining them onstage. The artists are unannounced until the superjam itself.
Do they at least announce the time and location of the superjam?
I'd like to see Trey Anastasio, maybe someone from Medeski Martin & Wood. Buckethead if he's there. And sue me, or call me a whiner. I'd like to see Dave in there. Maceo Parker and Herbie Hanpenis are amazing as well though.
i got love fore dave but i definitly wouldnt want him to get added i dont think. mostly cuz i dont wanna have to hear everyone else bitching about him. im thinking how bout
les(or phil or both), randolf, john popper, someone from mmw, bill frisell, and karl denson (if hes there)
I know this is off subject, but do artists ever meet up and play an unannounced jam set?
For example, if Les met up with bela fleck, hypothetical, and they got Stewart copeland to play drums. Could they just play an unannounced tent set, or so.
Gnome, to answer your question, they announce the jam on the schedule...I don't know of any unnanounced jams in the 3 yrs I've been, but alot of artists will bring someone up on stage to play a song or two (Warren Haynes shows up at at least 3 other shows per bonnaroo it seems.)
ya and good point, no drummer, just mike, phil and les. they could get some dueling basse's action going, but who knows what would happen. not me. it would be madness, madness i say.
