I picked up Fevers and Mirrors by Bright Eyes used and for cheap the other day and I've really been diggin it. I've never really listened to him before but figured I should check him out because he's at the 'roo this yr. Anyway, anyone a fan of his and if so any recommendations for his other stuff?

Huge fan. My favorite is still Lifted (Or The Story Is In The Soil Keep Your Ear to the Ground). Get it or start by downloading "Make War," "Bowl of Oranges" and "To Love and Be Loved (Let's Not @%&* Ourselves)" (My favorite song of Oberst's).

I saw him live back in November and I can guarantee three things: 1) He'll be tipsy, if not drunk. 2) He'll say some crazy things. 3) He'll put on one of the best shows you've ever seen. Honestly, Conor Oberst has talent oozing out of his ears. I'm a huge fan. With Lifted (my favorite Bright Eyes CD) already recommended, I suggest checking out his latest stuff from I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning. It has a much more calm, folkish, mature sound. I recommend downloading: "Old Soul Song" "Train Under Water" "Landlocked Blues" "Road to Joy" And, if you can get past the slightly pretentious opening, check out "At the Bottom of Everything".

I would also recommend the new album if you have not heard it. It's Called something like I'm Wide Awake it's Morning.
and yes fast forward the story if your not interested for "At the Bottom of Everything" cause that is one really good song.
The shows are typically a good time, him and who ever is travelling with him are good musicians. I don't know what it will be like at a large venue. I have only seen them in a 300 people capacity venue. I hope they turn the volume up.
What if he does a late night set and busts out only his new digital album??
I have seen Bright Eyes live 3 times and they have all been COMPLETELY different experiences.
1. Rainy second stage at Field Day Fest. - Drunk Depressed Connor.
2. Small-Medium sized venue - "I'm Wide Awake..." very tight folky full band performance. Much better than the first.
3. Medium-Large venue - "Digital Ash..." and old Favs. Connor + his band + Nick from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs + The Faint. 11 Musicians all together. A very electric, amazing show.

I second that one. The little I saw of him didn't do much for me, so I went back in and checked out whover was on..i think it was either Underworld or Blur.

I've seen him once with the Faint (I'm still confused to why they didn't do Dust together and was a bit let down there) and the whole digital ash-a-palooza set. I enjoyed it but would have liked to have heard some of his other more folkish stuff too. I am a huge bright eyes fan and am beyond excited to see another performance.
p.s. Does anybody know if Conor has ever laughed during a performance? Just something that crossed my mind the other day and I was curious about. It'd be weird that's for sure. haha.
Much thanks to those of you that recommended "Lifted." I had only heard "I'm Wide Awake.." so I went and got Lifted and it really is incredible - Bright Eyes is quickly turning into one of my more highly anticipated shows this year.
Question, I know of Bright Eyes, but is he big enough to be near the top of the Bonnaroo roster?I saw him 3 years ago at Fieldday and he played the 2nd stage.Maybe they are generalizing, but I would think Buddy Guy and Bela Fleck would be before him on the bill.

Hm. It's really a hard call. Bright Eyes is huge in the indie/hipster/emo scenes, but it's hard to say how he ranks up with the rest of the crwod at Bonnaroo. I'd say he'll be playing second stage or a tent.

I think he's gotten considerably bigger over the last three years. I had some friends who got into him with Lifted... in 2002 but I never saw any "mainstream" press coverage of him until his two '05 albums, when it seemed like there was quite a bit. I know absolutely nothing about this sort of thing, but I had the impression that Wide Awake and Digital Urn were pretty big/successful, not just a niche audience. Wide Awake was on plenty of 10 best lists, etc.
I know he sold out the Riviera in Chicago in '05 (twice I think), which is a bigger venue than moe, for example, plays, and is the venue that Beck, Death Cab, or Oysterhead would/have play(ed). I poked around a bit and it looks like the Conor/Jim James/M. Ward tour played the Vic (a smaller venue) in '04, so I think his audience has grown considerably over the last year and a half. I guess I don't have much of a read on Buddy Guy's national draw because it seems like he plays his Chicago bar every other day.
If you would have asked me before the lineup came out, I would have expected Bright Eyes would play a tent, simply because the more intimate setting seems more appropriate, but from his billing, I'm guessing maybe he'll be on the 2nd stage.

I saw Conor back in November in DC. It's the most I've spend on a single night - it rounded out to almost $550 (including tickets, gas, train fare, merchandise, etc).
