I'm listening to Beck's "Odelay" right now, and the more I listen, the more I desperately hope he does a late night show. I think Beck late night would be a crazy, crazy time. The thing is, I have a feeling they'd put him on one of the stages, and I'd really like to see him in a tent.
What is everyone else's preference? Beck during the day, or Beck at night? And why?
I don't think I realized until just now how much Beck really fits in at this festival. It's been years since I really sat down and listened to this album.

beck at late night would be a preference, but he needs one of the larger outdoor stages.
it was impossible to see him play in the coachella tent in 2004. that sh*t was packed beyond belief two acts prior to beck. he will draw the crowds so we need a lil room to groove
a direct Quote from my boyfriend: "Odelay is his best album with the possible exception of Midnight Vultures, but those are probably on the same level, IMO. In '04 at Coachella they had him playing an unannounced midafternoon set in a tent that was way too small for his crowd. Quite possibly, this took away from his overall groove/vibe/whatever! Hopefully, Bonnaroo will be more accommodating to him."

I love Odelay, a night set would be so great. Becks a great MC to. He would have everyone all over the place dacing. The funny thing about this album is from most Beck fans standpoints the album is one of his best. Yet you will always find 3 copies in the $3 dollar bin at the record shop. That has always made me wonder...
What is everyone's favorite Beck CD? It is a toss up between Odelay and Guero for myself. I can't tell ya how many times I listened to Guero last year. Then after that I say Mutation, Sea Changes, Midnight Vultures, and Mellow Gold(I could never get into most of the CD)
As far when Beck plays night would be better with a full band..if he did a solo thing then the day. The more I think about it the least likely Beck will conflict with Oysterhead at night. Unravelled made a good point with him at Coachella in a tent..he is too big for a tent, so most likely he is either playing before the headliner or doing a late night with Oysterhead going where Beck isn't playing. I am sticking with my guns on the prediction.
Revolution is not something fixed in ideology, nor is it something fashioned to a particular decade. It is a perpetual process embedded in the human spirit. -Abbie Hoffman
I feel like everything is pointing towards Beck playing ~6:00 on one of the big stages on Saturday (I'm thinking main stage before Radiohead) but we'll see.
Midnight Vultures is what really turned me on to Beck and now I pretty much dig it all. The party-dance-live band sound of Midnight Vultures is the stuff I'm most excited to see at Roo. I think Sea Changes is an amazing CD too, but strikes me as more appealing sitting alone with headphones than a live situation. I was a bit dissappointed with Guero. The Odelay, Mutations, Midnight Vultures, Sea Changes progression seemed like a completely different artist, completely reinvented with each album (there are things I like about them all). I was hoping for another exploration of a new direction with Guero, but feel like it almost plays like a "greatist hits" from Odelay, Sea Changes and Midnight Vultures. Nothing wrong with that, and there is plenty I enjoy there, but compared to the huge stylistic shifts between the preceding albums it felt a little complacent to me.
My preference: Midnight Vultures/Sea Changes Odelay Mutations Guero Mellow Gold (don't know this one too well)
I also dig this:
but that's a really weird collection of lo-fi, seemingly tossed off stuff.

I don't know what ya'll are talkin' about! Mellow Gold is my favorite album...it's one of his strangest! Between "Snoozer," "Truck Drivin' Neighbors Downstairs," "Soul Sucking Jerk," "Fuckin' With My Head," "Beercan," and "Blackhole," this album makes for an extremely interesting listen!! Besides that... Sea Change is next on the list for me. I call Sea Change, Beck's "Dark Side Of The Moon" It's quite the masterpiece.
Something that slipped my mind that I meant to post: I read in a couple issues ago in Rolling Stone that Beck plans on reissuing Odely for its 10th Anniversary by adding a few tracks to it including the original Debra. It also said he is going to travel with Radiohead this summer a bit and is working on the soundtrack for Nacho Libre staring Jack Black.
Mutations is probably my fav cause it sort of represents everything the guy can do as a songwriter.
One Foot in the Grave is way underrated.
As far as the night tent show, it really depends on what mode Beck is in. If it's party Beck, it's a great idea. If it's chilled out singer songwriter Beck, he might fair better with a day show. Doesn't really matter though. Either way, he's gonna be great.
Beck late nite sounds appealing, but I feel like ka mai is right in thinking it will be a late afternoon set, something before the headliner. I'm scared that if he goes on late he will overlap oysterhead or the disco biscuits. If you ask me, Beck, Costello, and Bright Eyes should all have late afternoon second stage sets, leading up to the headliners on the main stage. Let the biscuits go late nite friday and oysterhead late sat. Back to the point . . . I love essentially everything by Beck, but once again, as ka said Sea Change is more for private relaxed listening. When I see him this year i wanna hear him drop a lot of tracks from Odelay. I feel like that is his best album (although Midnite Vultures is the most complete). Play the first couple tracks off Guero as well, encore with loser and I'm happy.
I have never really listened to Beck but, I just watched a bunch of beck live footage off of youtube and I have to say im pretty excited now to see him. I perticularly like the footage of him at bizzarefest. Now I really hope he gets a latenight set on the smaller stage.

I want Beck to play late night but I don't. I'm already stressed (in a good way) about an OHead/Sasha conflict, and an add'l Beck conflict would totally scru me. In reality, I THINK he will do a 6pm What Stage performance - simply due to his draw.

Yeah i know damn well Sasha is going to conflict with one of my bands for late night and im going to have to cry... MY guess is Beck will be an afternoon show as well...
I REEEEALLY want to see Sasha but theres no way i could bring myself to skip Oysterhead...

I'm w/ you, Lucid. Bonnaroo forces the toughest decisions every year. I'm just hoping against all hope that one of the following 2 things happen: 1) They both get late night on separate nights 2) If they are late night on the same night, OHead cranks up around midnight and Sasha gets started sometime after 2am and goes until sunrise.

Sasha's got a new(ish) album called Fundacion NYC, deloused. It's the only album he's put out using his new gear. He quit spinning vinyl completely -- he uses Abelton Live software and a controller he had designed custom for himself called "The Maven." It's as close to live as a DJ can get - he can cut up to 5 tracks @ once w/ separate mixes & effects, sample and loop individual cuts, etc.
It's an AWESOME album - Amazon should have some samples.

i saw beck front row at pine knob years ago . wasnt too excited but it was frickin awesome. my little sister worked for ritual in detroit and got me tickets i didnt know they were front row till igot there.he was awesome .reminded me of mick jager.was werin geranimals unbelievable fan ever since
i cant wait to see beck.. i think maybe beck and oysterhead could do latenights on the same night and not conflict..... i am assuming that radiohead wont fill a normal headlinespot.. it sounds like they only play for about 2 hours instead of the 3 or 4 that pastheadliners have been scheduled for...so if that set is shorter... and even if oysterhead plays everything they dont have have that much material to draw from...im not sure what to expect fromt them...they may ja, for 3 or 4 hours but im guessing 2 -2 and a half, which leaves plenty of time for beck to play everything hes ever done!... i know its probably jus wishful thinking on my part but it could pan out that way.... or switch beck and oysterheads order...if i had my way i would have oysterhead play from sundown til sunup
to me it seems that beck and oysterhead will both play a stage and that makes it almost impossible they will overlap

So...now that we know Oysterhead is on Friday, I think it's becoming more and more likely that we have stages both nights this year. Oysterhead - Friday; Beck - Saturday.
