Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
This has been a great thread to illustrate how silly some of the complaining has been. Everyone could go round and round on definitions of these labels.
As a longtime (as in, late eighties) fan of Primus, you have to realize how anyone calling him part of the Jam Band scene makes me spit milk out of my nose. Wait until you see this moocumentary making fun of that "genre." To me, this illustrates how the "jam" scene is actually pretty wide open; and it further confuses me why of all the labels people from this one are so bent out of shape with the diversity of acts here. Primus is as much jam as Radiohead-- have you ever heard a live Radiohead set post-OK Computer?
I love how Radiohead is not "indie" (which I can buy with the independent music label argument) - so what are they? Because they certainly aren't mainstream. I guess, "alternative" - that horrible label that means nothing but at least says they aren't mainstream. Again, every frat boy I know has Phish stickers and albums falling out of their cars-- that's mainstream to me- but it doesn't bother me if Phish derivatives are at Roo-- certainly not in the way a few of these acts seem to bother some posters here.
And this isn't about seeing a selection of big and little jam bands. It's about seeing a selection of big and little BANDS/ACTS at all.
JOKING: I think we need more black rap acts-- our rap acts are too white or biracial! Let's start yelling about this now! We need J5 or Charlie Tuna solo just to balance out the Streets!/JOKE
Bonnaroo may have started out with a jamband-laden bill, but 5 years down the road and 4 festivals in the book, I think it's come to represent the best that LIVE MUSIC has to offer in the new millenium. It's stayed true to its roots, while expanding it's horizons. It's like a giant oak tree that spread it's limbs, and wants to see how far it's branches can grow. When they planted the seed 5 years ago, do you think they thought they'd ever offer THIS lineup? Hell no. No way.
What is so beautiful about this lineup is that even with these changes, BONNAROO remains. BONNAROO is a feeling. BONNAROO is an experience. It's more than a word, and certainly more than one singular musical genre. IT can't be tied to a specific line-up, or certain approach to the music. It has to remain alive, malleable, and capable of growing with the music it represents. IT has to remain a feeling, and not a predictable list of the same artists year in and year out.
If you want a predictable list of annual artists you have Wakarusa, 10K lakes, HSMF, and all the other jamband festivals out there.

Damn. That was pretty badass. Those guys have some awesome talent. I might just have to make a spot for them in my 'Must See' list.
When we started the event the first year, definitely the program was much more oriented to what you call the jam bands," festival co-producer Jonathan Mayers told Billboard in June. "But I think, smartly, each year we've tried to open it up a bit and instill more diversity into our lineup. The fact that we can have John Prine and Mars Volta and it works is an amazing thing." - Billboard Magazine Dec. 20th 2005
Just thought some of you might find this interesting
I have to say that you can't please all of the people all of the time. That being said, we waited a long time for this announcement. If you aren't a hip hop fan then I can see why you would be completely pissed off. Bonnaroo will make it up to the jam fans though. I think they have a couple more announcements atleast.

Yeah, I'm thinking we get two more announcements(not sure how many artists) and the next one is going to satisfy some jam fans. I'm hoping that they go back to the 6 stage set up of 2004, because we could possibly get 8-11 artists added. But if they keep the same setup as last year, I'm thinking we're only going to get a handful of artists.
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.
Technically Indie bands are bands on independent labels. It does not matter what the type of music is. It's not a genre of music.
Yea very much agreed on that.....anyways...no COMPLAINING at Bonnaroo period. The lineup is great....I like many different kinds of tunes and I think that it is gonna be unbelievable....
