It seems as if most of the complaints over the lineup come from the "Jam Band" community, and although I appreciate the orgins of this great festival, how many places can you be at the same time? I mean, it seems to me that you could find a jam band on a stage at every hour the festival is going on. Is it just that people want to see the same bands they have already seen before? I've never really been into the Jam scene, but I am stoked to get to experience some of these bands in this great environment. There are so many GREAT smaller, unknown bands playing. Instead of seeing "enter band name here" for the twentieth time, go check out Bright Eyes or Magic Numbers or Seu Jorge or dios. I wonder how many people passed on the Mars Volta last year because it wasn't thier cup of tea? For Shame!
Just my rant. This is going to be an incredible weekend.
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.

??? Way too many? Atmosphere, Streets, Cypress Hill, Blackalicious, Lyrics Born -- that's it right? That's 5! The Indie acts are WAY overrepresented this year, IMO, but I still think it's an awesome line-up!
Nobody goes and sees the same jambands over and over at 'roo. Last year you could see a large well known jamband, Widespread Panic, or you could go see a smaller band like Tea Leaf Green. Majority of the people in the TLG tent last year had never even heard of them before but were enjoying the heck out of them ripping it up. 'Roo gave people like me from the east coast a great chance to check them out since they are west coast band who, at the time, had never really been to the east. So while there are still jambands at 'roo this year it is a lot of the well known ones most people have seen. When the lineup is mostly jambands you get a chance to see a lot of smaller and less known bands. I know thats what made me unhappy about this year. Not trying to complain but elaborate on why jamband fans may complain.

That's one way to look at it umph. But would you rather see a small jamband that will eventually do a coast-to-coast tour, at which time you can drive a little and see them for $10-$15, or artists from Europe, South America, and Africa? I'm going for the latter (Dungen, Magic Numbers, Amadou & Miriam, Seu Jorge, Refugee All-Stars, etc.). Talk about the musical opportunity of a lifetime!
I think it's great that they're getting a real diverse group of acts to play. It gives you a chance to expand your musical tastes.
I agree, i may not be the biggest fan of rap or anything but i feel there has been a good job trying to represent every community. Hell I want to stop by and hear Atmosphere since i am a small fan. As long as i dont see the name 50 Cent (yes i know he has his own style of music and all the pishposh but he can stay away) i think can live hip-hop.

Don't forget Common, and I heard Damian Marley is more hip-hop than reggae.

Damian's new album is hip-hop with a dub feel for the most part. And I forgot about Common. That's still 7 hip-hop acts vs. 20-30 indie acts.
Actually, more around 10-15 indie acts, and that's only if the count people like Beck and Radiohead. (And Cat Power, who is unlikely to show.)
We've got: Radiohead Beck Death Cab Bright Eyes Sonic Youth My Morning Jacket Cat Power (unlikely) Stephen Malkmus Dresden Dolls Son Volt Clap Your Hands Say Yeah Devendra Banhart Andrew Bird
That's 13. There may be others on the lineup that I haven't heard of...
Phil Lesh & Friends Oysterhead moe. Bela Fleck & the Flecktones Robert Randolph & the Family Band G. Love & Special Sauce Umphrey's McGee Mike Gordon & Ramble Dove Medeski Martin & Wood Blues Traveler Disco Biscuits Soulive Rusted Root Bill Frisell The Wood Brothers
Did I miss any?
Well, so far that would be 15. Out of 78. And that is why I complain about the lineup.

I've been asking myself that everyday since the initial line-up came out. He has a big gap in his tour right around bonnaroo, and he is hitting several festivals. I hope he gets added. Thats probably my only real complaint.
It's funny that some people are complaining about the bands as others hail it the best bonnaroo ever. Frankly, I'm impressed, for a number of reasons:
Last year, two nights of WSP was too much. Theyre cool, but they took up too much of my time. Had they not brought out Herbie, Robert Randoplh and Warren Haynes, I might have been frustrated a little bit. Headliners need to be dynamic, and this year they are. Radiohead doesn't just play anywhere; albeit I'm not a huge fan, I like them, and its a rare find. Tom Petty will provide a solid evening of good feelings, and Phil is AWESOME (no one can complain there).
The playing field is very dynamic, and there are definatly a bunch of jam acts. You might not be able to jam from noon to 4 am, but come on, diversify.
Isn't your card going to be full?!? I couldn't imagine a schedule that isn't totally crowded and filled with some brutal overlaps. The comedy tent looks great, and I wanna see Les's movie, but frankly I can't sacrifice a minute of music. Whatever else Superfly adds is just going to further complicate my schedule, and might just end up upsetting me.
I know we've talked about this before, but bonnaroo is about bringing a bunch of different acts together. That's what helps keep the tents from getting too crowded. I'm glad Death Cab and other such bands are playing, they'll keep the crowd away from where I'm trying to be. (OK now you try saying it, "I'm glad [insert the name of an act you don't want at bonnaroo] is playing because it will keep the crowd away from my bands") Furthermore, bonnaroo wants to be different than the other festivals around. Bonnaroo should be the progressive festival which sets the bar for other festivals. Frankly it seems as if many other festivals have begun attempts to mimick Bonnaroo. Lollapalooza got Manu, and that makes me a little jealous, but otherwise, a ticket to bonnaroo is one of the best concert deals imaginable. Radiohead, Phil and Tom Petty alone would combine for the ticket price.

Well, so far that would be 15. Out of 78. And that is why I complain about the lineup.
15 Jam Bands. 10-25 Indie bands, depending on who you ask. 7 Rap groups/Rappers. A whole slew of other various types of music.
If you ask me, in my opinion, Jam Bands are already well represented and as well balanced as the others.
As for headliners, Headliner 1: Tom Petty. Classic rockalicious. Headliner 2: Radiohead. New rockadical. Headliner 3: Phil Lesh. Jambandtastic.
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.
I'm just gonna start complaining that blues and bluegrass are both under represented, just to throw out an opposing viewpoint. I need my Keb Mo, my Del McCoury and my Rose's Pawn Shop.
