I get the feeling from this message board that some people are downing the tents. Some people give the vibe that if their favorite band doesn't get one of the stage shows then it won't be a good performance. Or that bands that play on main stages are "better" than tent performances. To those that are new to Bonnaroo, that is far from the truth. Some of the greatest shows happen inside these tents. I've seen great shows in tents and on stages, but my top five shows of Roo have all happened inside the tents.
Anybody else have any input on this or did I pick up on something that wasn't really being stated.

I'd personally prefer a show to be in the tent, atleast late night. I like the setting more, and i prefer the light shows in there. I liked more shows last year that were in tents than ones that werent.
Tents are always the better shows with me. To me it's more intimate because its smaller and like ziggyandthemokeys said the light shows are better. You can also get up front easier.
I concur, I didn't mean this thread to suggest that the "better" acts got the stage; but more often than not, for very obvious reasons, the more popular bands get a stage, there are some artists to whom I would prefer a tent show. Keller for instance, unless he was with SCI, has been and should be in a tent (although his crowd was huge last year. Everyone rush over from Jack, I swear I got the last spot in that tent. I was in the very back corner, on the left, facing the stage; essentially leaning against the pole [mostly dancing with it], I was a literal 6 inches from a sheet of rain as a ton of fools crowded in; including a couple who thought their baby was an excuse to get under the tent [sorry, if you brought an infant to bonnaroo and it began pouring rain, you need to own up and go back to your car, no try to catch Keller]). Most DJs too are better fot tents, jam acts as well, in fact . . . damn near anything is good in a tent, its just a matter of crowd size.

i will say that for the biggerbands like oysterhead the tents arent the best... in my experiences if you got off to the side at all the sound quality goes down drastically and it also gets sketchy straight out in front of them after a ya get far enough away.... some of the best shows i have seen have been in tent... but all things being equal as to the quality of the show i think the stages allow for more people to properly enjoy the show... for the acts that draw too many for a tent...like oysterhead...but i have seen alot of shows at the second stage where sound quality was an issue where i was at... plus that beer shack right in the middle of it....i vote for a mainstage latenight oysterhead!!!!!
I'd go with the tents. Day or night. During the day, it's a great place to get the fuck out of the sun or rain for that matter. Sound and lights are better. Most of the bands I saw in 04 were in tents, so I guess I'm a little biased.
the tents are there for a reason. to block you from the intense sun and rain. if they could put a tent at the main stages, i think they would.
the tent dosnt make the performance any different. it just alters your *perception* of the performance. the tents are stages just like the regular ones, theyre just a bit smaller with a covered area. the increased intimacy is always good, as it usually is. ;-)
