Okay so for years I've been hearing about "the superjam"... can someone please explain this to me. Theres nothing about it on the Bonnaroo site. Is it an official band playing? Is it just some random event that happens over the course of the 'Roo? Is it going to be announced sooner or later? I dont get it...
The Superjam is when several different artists from various bands get together on Sunday afternoon to jam a set of songs. Stanton Moore, Maceo Parker, George Porter, Eric Krasno, Neil Evans, Papa Mali, Adam Deitch, Reggie Watts were the artists in 04. 2002 had Michael Kang, Bela Fleck, Stanton Moore, and Robert Randolph, among others. I have never been to it because I'm usually catching another act. This year might be more interesting than others because there are less "jam-friendly" musicians and the chance for once in a lifetime collaborations seems to be higher.
They don't announce it officially. They announce when it will happen, and like last year they may announce one artist that is a definite. Last year it was Herbie Hanc0ck. It always happens on Sunday usually right before the last headliner. The rest of the artists are anybody's guess.

In '05 it was a total surprise, b/c ?Love was playing drums and I don't think he even played the fest w/ anybody! It was S_I_C_K -- ?Love & Pino Palladino were the TIGHTEST rhythm section I heard all weekend. Not to mention Herbie & the guit player. It was an awesome way to end my music @ 'roo (b/c I'm not a Panic fan).

^^^^^ The superjam often has artists that arent otherwise playing the fest, thats what makes it so upredictable and so kickass. ?love, Gordo, Maceo, & Dr. John are a few of the guys who have showed up for superjams w/o otherwise playing the fest. I also almost never catch em (I've been to every roo and didn't catch one for more than a song until last year).
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
I've always wanted to catch a Super Jam but they are always during another set that I refuse to miss. From what I've heard from others they are either hit or miss. Either way if nothing major is going on during the super jam it would be awesome to check out.
