I know this was posted in the "Schedule" thread by Rhettman, but i figured I would throw it up here for people who don't look at that thread. Here's the link to their site www.worldparty.net/worldparty.html Thanks Rhettman!
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.
so far, the leaked groups haven't even been the biggest in the add-on rounds. if world party's been added, makes me interested to see who else they have up their sleeve...
Karl Walinger (formerly of the Waterboys) is one of the finest songwriters I've ever heard-- his band World Party has a critically acclaimed storeroom of incredible songs.
But that's no where near the whole story. Also in there is a band/manager mutiny that resulted in Robbie Williams re-recording a song and the most devastating part: Karl had an aneurysm that he has only recently started to fully recover from. In fact, SXSW was his first stateside performance in years (and one of the few public performances since the aneurysm).

Where would World Party be listed on the roster? Somewhere in the middle like by Blues Traveler?
im thinking right around the Blackalicious, Grace Potter, Magic numbers part of the list. a little less well known then blues traveler (thats my guess)

I liked them. Of course I haven't heard them since 1987 but I remember that I liked them. I have that cassette I may have to dig it up to listen again.
The Waterboys and World Party, depending on who you ask- would be upper-middle.
But older fans (obviously those consciously listening to critically acclaimed songwriting in the mid to late eighties and on) mostly.
As for right now? It'd be an age thing-- those old enough to know/respect them for past heroics will be very excited especially because most fans had grown uncomfortably used to the idea that they'd never see them again. New, potential fans won't know them at all.
But seriously, go try World Party's Goodbye Jumbo, Bang, Egyptology or Dumbing Up. You'll be glad you did.
And again, this is Superfly picking a talent and lifting them up-- a very, very musically and historically relevant choice on their part. This guy is a peer and influencer of many on this list. The idea of Karl Wallinger, Bonnie Raitt, Buddy Guy, Les Claypool and Blackalicious in the same catering tent makes me shudder with happiness.
