I have to say i am REAL excited to finally cross paths with son volt. I have been wanting to check them out for a while now but never had the chance. how are they live? I am sure there are more then a few Son Volt fans on this board that have seen them.
i was a huge uncle tupelo, son volt, wilco fan in high school...i still listen to all of the albums i already have (and have kept buying wilco albums) but haven't purchased any son volt since straightaways...for the record... i always thought farrar was (is) the far better songwriter...to me he just got a little stagnant and somwhere along the way wilco got more exciting...
which brings me to my question...can anyone suggest some songs from wide swing tremelo forward (including solo farrar records) that i can purchase from itunes to get caught up on what i've missed over the past few years?...i don't have the time/money to purchase all of the albums, so i'm looking for a nice selection here....for reference, some of my favorites include, windfall, tear stained eye, creosote, back into your world, way down watson etc...

Owen,
In my opinion, the best tracks from the "Okemah" Son Volt album are "Bandages & Scars", "Afterglow 61" and "6 String Belief". The whole album is great, but those are what I'd go with if you just want a few songs. Hope that helps.
