Okay, so up until now, Bonnaroo has been known as a jam-festival. Obviously this isn't true (and if anyone thinks it is true, it is changing, at least): B-roo 2006 is more indie/underground stuff, whether it be singer song writer or "jam." This isn't to say that there is not any jam stuff there. What I am interested in is what kind of music--NOT BANDS-- are people wanting to see?
Trance--so they can dance their asses off; Prog rock so they can dance and headband their bodies apart; world music--so people can groove and feel peaceful; experimental--so people can trip out, etc.
I don't think Bonnaroo has necessarily been known as a jam-festival up until now. True it is generally the pinnacle of festivals for jam-fans, but IMO Bonnaroo has always been a "good music" festival, with 60's counter culture roots highlighting both legendary artists and "underground" up and comers. What kind of music am I wanting to see? I don't really care as long as its awesome. Any genre will move me as long as its played well. I can't decide if I'm more excited to stomp my feet to the sounds of RRFB and Blues Traveler, or cultivate the classics with Petty and Costello. Frankly, one of the things that makes bonnaroo so amazing (at least for me) is that the festival ISN'T limited to one genre. Three days of jam bands would start to wear thin, but this way I get dozens of different musical experiences, from losing my head in some experimental sounds to bouncing up and down in a hip-hop crowd.

I don't really think the genre makes that much difference to me. If a band is good, they are good despite their genre. If I had to choose, I'd say "jambands," because I think jambands are capable of putting on high-energy performances with exploratory improv. That type of show is just *my* type of show. Unlike somebody like Modest Mouse, whom I love all their albums, but realisitically they blow chunks live. I'd much rather see a decent jamband put on a good performance, than a great indie band like Modest Mouse mail in a performance.

ya... im gonna surprise everyone and go with jambands i would say that the increased hip hop lineup is a plus. after last years j5 show the whole group i was with was thinking man they should have more hip hop at roo. its just so high energy and uplifting. like jambands. id also like to see some more bluegrass. it is alway represented but there could always be more. telluride is the same weekend as roo though so i dont think there will be much added if we get anymore additions
