I went to sasquatch festival last weekend or whenever and Death cab opened for beck. I ended up catching the last half of their set and surprisingly enough I really enjoyed myself. These guys are not bad live performers. They had a lot of positive energy and their music sounded really well crafted. who knows though, could've just been me. Maybe you guys should check em out??!!

Well, it makes sense that they're playing the same slot as oysterhead. I thought they had one earlier in the day. I just noticed that death cab was getting dissed on alot but they really aren't that bad.

I'll be at Death Cab. a) They're the main attraction for my girlfriend. and b) Honestly, the more I think about it, the more I don't want to see Oysterhead. I only like half their songs and I think the only reason I'd want to see them is the fact that they're a rarity.
I'll definitely be checking their set out. I can see how/why everybody's going to be at Oysterhead though.
I've never seen DCFC live, but I'm a fan of their albums and really enjoyed their "Drive Well, Sleep Carefully" documentary. That said, I'll probably end up with a pretty good spot for them, although I would like to see some Oysterhead if possible.

Death Cab for me as well. I've been a big DCFC fan forever, and I've never seen them live. I'm a big fan of all the Oysterhead musicians individually, but I can't say I love all of their stuff together (although I think it will prompt some sick jam action). That time slot is one of the most difficult for me, if not the most difficult. I'm a big Nickel Creek fan too, and I hate not seeing them, but I'm going to wait to see them at Lollapalooza, and I've seen them twice before. Ahh well...

I was really looking forward to Death Cab, but Nickel Creek is my favorite band next to Radiohead. Kind of sucks. Oh well, I still get to see most of the bands I wanted to.
Yeah, I'll have to be at Nickel Creek too. I've never seen them but really like what I've heard so far. I'm upset that I'll miss RRFB, DCFC & Oysterhead. But, I have several time slots during the weekend where I have four and five conflicts and decision just have to be made. It's funny how when the first band announcement came out most people were disappointed and said that there weren't enough bands they wanted to see.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here. I think Oysterhead is set up to be potentially the biggest disappointment at roo this year. Now don't get me wrong here, I will be there for at least the first half of ther set and I have very high hopes, but low expectations. And if it's a hot set I'm staying but this could potentially be a disaster. They haven't played together in years so I don't know how anyone can expect them to be tight. There is a very high probablility for a sloppy set. Even though all three are extremely accomplished musicians I still think it could go either way. I look to last year's Trey set as an example of how one of our gods can misfire. Oysterhead in theory is awesome, but I think it is a toss up whether they pull it off for roo this year. A one-off show has almost never been legendary in rock history. Other than being able to say "I saw Oysterhead" I don't understand a lot of the unbridled glee some have for this set. And I am not hating O-head, just being careful.
I love DCFC. I acknowledge they are as far from a jamband as you can get. They are not a band to get all groovy and dance around to. However, they are great songwriters and among the emo sounding groups of the last 6 years they are head and shoulders above the rest for musical complexity. Many here think of them as the mtv addition to this years roo but how often have you ever seen them on mtv since 1999? or on the radio? I still think Superfly has an incredible ear and seeks out the 'best in class' within each genre programmed. Death Cab certainly fits this model. They were around long before emo bacame the "it" music and given their rabid fanbase they will most likely be around long after.
I was very upset at the Ohead/DCFC conflict as DCFC was one of my top 5 for the roo. They never come down to Miami and the one show scheduled down here was last October. . . right when we were slammed by hurricance Wilma and it was canceled with no reschedule. So I was ecstatic when they were on the list for roo. It will be a mellow show but a beautiful show. I can't wait.
So I will be at Ohead and most likely moving to DCFC 45 minutes later unless Ohead beats the odds and blows us away.
yeah, i definitely wanted to check out death cab, but they got put in a bad spot going up against oysterhead. this year's lineup is so sick sick sick, and i was going back and forth with myself on whether or not i could actually do the festival this year, but when oysterhead was announced, that made my decision. i'm sure i will be able to catch death cab at a club/theater sometime down the line, but like everyone else says...you don't know if you'll ever get to see the three headed BEAST that is oysterhead again.
^^^and i agree with you paranoidbot that o-head's set can turn out to be a disaster. i've had the same thoughts running through my head as well, and i will be giving them all my attention, but if they just aren't doing it for me, i'll leave....but at the same time, i'm trying to think positive about it and of course, not have too high of expectations either. on a positive note, trey was out west recently and was seen at the sonoma jazz fest and had some practice sessions out there les for the upcoming gig...don't know if stew was there or not though...
you say you don't know if they're [Oysterhead] going to bring it, that they're probably going to be sloppy, but this is a one-off. a very special one-off. I'm sure, positive, that the band has been practicing for Roo.
it's not like these three guys would just get up on stage with eachother 5 years after they last played together and not practice before hand... especially for Bonnaroo.. that's just crazy. the fact of the matter is that these guys will want to wow the crowd... they wouldn't be at Bonnaroo for a one-off if they didn't... they've practiced and rehearsed. I'm positive of it..

I'm sure they've practiced some but with Les's and Trey's srping schedules it sure can't have been too extensive. Logistically they will not have seen each other for at least a month before roo. This is where I hope their intrinsic musical abilities take over and help out. I have no doubt they want to impress the roo but those two have been very busy this spring. Here's to hoping they rawk.

Yeah, that's what you would think. But we all know that Phish didn't practice before thier "fare-well" tour, and you could tell. You'd think they'd practice to give back to all the fans on the last tour, but they didn't. You could tell with Trey, the most. I really hope they practice, and I think they would, but I'm just never sure what to expect from Trey anymore. Either he's spot on, or he just noodles himself into a hole. That being said, it doesn't really matter, cause I'll be seeing O-head regardless. I wish I could see Death Cab, but they'll be around again, and Oysterhead might not.

I have a hard time believing that they would announce a one-time come back show and not practice their balls off for it. Everyone knows your name can't be associated with a shitty roo show, especially one of this scale. I firmly believe that trey, les, and stew will wow the whole audience and leave us in a dazed, mind blown state.
i remember reading an article that they were spendiing memorial day weekend. (last weekend) together and practiciing. i know its only one weekend but it is practice close to roo. i had a good memorial day but i wish i could have been there
Oysterhead would be the show of Bonnaroo if they were able to practice with each other and possibly play a show or 2 leading up to the Roo performance. This is a very tough time slot to pick from. DCFC is great live band. I have been a big fan for several years now. I have watched them play about 7 times, their shows tend to all be the same, but they play balls out none the less. RRFB.....always brings it to the table. I mean he basically built his reputation at Bonnaroo. So you know he is going to blow it up!!!!! Nickle Creek is the other band and they are terrific. This is easily the hardest time slot for me to pick. I would say im at Oysterhead and if the sound blows then Im off to all three of the other shows.
bored at Oysterhead!!!! not to leave out Trey and Stewert, but for crying out loud its Lester Claypool, how could he ever cause someone to be bored! He could just be standing on a street corner waiting to cross the street and I could watch him without being bored!
