It's all a matter of personal opinion. Les causes me to get bored when I try to listen to him. Thats why music is so great. One person see's something exciting. Another person gets bored.
Death Cab for Cutie is good. Oysterhead is good. However, both shows are overhyped, potentially overcrowded and opposite Robert Randolph who is, simply put, money. The real question is do I catch the last bit of Cat Power or the last bit of Death Cab before catching dinner and getting a decent spot for the Tom Petty set.
"mythical practice session??" gimme a break. i have heard so much about this. its not like they havent played their instruments in 5 years. anyone who is thinking about skipping oysterhead because it might be sloppy is nuts. it will be a hell of a show. and hey if your not into it the death cab show will sound exactly like it does on the album. go check em out
"For example, Trey Anastasio was said to be in Northern California at Les Claypool’s abode with Stewart Copeland practicing for the pending Oysterhead gig at Bonnaroo. A quick pre-show text message alerted me to the fact that Trey was definitely not on the West Coast so I was prepared for an evening of fine music with the possibility of no guests whatsoever—Big Red or otherwise. "
- from a jambands.com review of Phil Lesh at the Warfield over Memorial Day Weekend.
So...a reviewer for jambands.com seems to have the idea that there was no mythical practice session for Oysterhead, eh? He seems to have it pretty certain, the thing about Trey definitely not being on the Left Coast seems serious enough.
Maybe these guys haven't been practicing as much as we thought.
those shows took place on 5/18 and 5/19 and the practice was scheduled for the memorial day weekend, the following weekend. So he's right, Trey would not have been on the west coast during the Phil Warfield shows.
